While it's not out of the question, I'm not 100% sure we'll circle-back to Puig once he's cleared protocols. He'll still check the same boxes if/when he's healthy, but there will be an increased chance that bringing him in at that point shakes up the clubhouse a little more as well. If we're more than 7 games in at the point Puig gets up to game speed, we will have passed the point we need to reach to maintain the extra year of control over Pache and Waters - or even Shewmake or Ball for that matter. They will all have been around the other players and staff that much more at that point, so it's almost as easy to make the argument that we'd be better off not taking the chance his personality screws up "clubhouse chemistry" - depending on how much weight you choose to put in such things.
While I do believe in some of those immeasurables more than others do, I also agree with those that think that adding him to the mix wouldn't likely kill the clubhouse - like him or not, there's something to the perception that Snitker is really adept at handling a diverse group of personalities and keeping a group happy and together, Freddie has turned into the leader everyone hoped he would, and having guys like Hamels, Melancon, Ozuna, d'Arnaud, and O'Day would help keep things together. That said (if I were in AA's shoes), I'd have to also look really hard at the options in Gwinnett after securing that extra year of control. You'd be able to add one or more of those guys to the mix at home if you chose to (the Mutts and Jays are in town for that entire week), which you have to feel would make them a little more comfortable.
In what's going to be a wacky two months - particularly with far less opportunity for advance scouts to get looks at these kids - there's a realistic chance that you could get one of the kids off to a hot start like Riley did last year before other teams have a chance to get a book on them and adjust the way they approach them, particularly if you're only playing them when they have platoon advantages (assuming you can guide Snitker to the right situations and decisions).
