Question about the Padres suspended game

Maybe the easiest way to say it is that the Braves will not have to make any changes to their current roster to play in this game. Ex: They don't have to manipulate roster size to match July.

Players who are currently in the lineup but no longer on the team (Vogt and Arcia) will be replaced with players who are on the current roster. Players on the current roster who are ineligible (Adrianza) will remain ineligible. Players who are on the current roster but are in the game (Chavez, Heredia, etc.) will remain in the game unless they are pinch hit for or otherwise subbed out for another player on the current roster. Players who are no longer on the current roster and are also not in the game (Almonte) are completely irrelevant to the future of this game.

The only unanswered question for me is if we will get an extra man or not given that there are two games in one day, but its not technically a double header.

If one of our pitchers gets caught using sticky substance in the suspended game, do we have to forfeit every game he pitched back to July? Could be a death blow.

Since the game started before rosters expanded, will it be under previous roster size or current roster size?

Since it is the same for both teams, expanded rosters OK. Not a DH so no man added for the day.

Been looking at the lineup again since Arcia’s back.

Pederson RF
Swanson SS
Freeman 1B
Albies 2B
Riley 3B
Vogt C
Heredia CF
Arcia LF
Chavez P

If the lineup doesn’t reach Vogt’s spot in the bottom of the 5th we could still double switch and take Chavez out of the game and bring in a new pitcher and put him in the 6 spot with Contreras in the 9 spot.

I'm missing something here Slippy. If we don't reach Vogt's spot and we double switched to put a pitcher in the 6 hole, wouldn't the pitcher be due up in the bottom of the 6th? If we do reach Vogt's spot, then it would make sense to double switch.

Lets hope we just bat around in the 5th and make this easy for Snit, because its a little complicated.

The pitchers spot would end up hitting in the bottom of the 6th and we would PH for the new pitcher at that time.

It does look like both teams will get an extra man. Padres announced that Reiss Knehr will be added as their 29th man to start Game 2 tonight. Tim Hill- who was in the game when it was suspended- will remain in to start the resumed game.

Fun fact: Reiss Knehr also started the suspended game, so he'll be the starting pitcher in both games completed today.

Technically it won't count as starting two games on the same day- Knehr will still get credit for a start on 7/21- but it is a cool little technicality that you'll look at both box scores today and see Knehr as the starting pitcher.

Other good news: we scored 3 runs on him in 1.2 innings on 7/21. Hopefully we have similar luck tonight in the regularly scheduled game.

Ed Ruehlbach threw two shutouts in a doubleheader in 1908. Iron Joe McGinnity threw 2 complete games in doubleheaders three times in one month in 1903. Don Newcombe threw a shutout and then 7 innings, 2 runs (ND) in 1950.
