Apparently Disney is redesigning Splash Mountain to strip out all Song of the South material and replace it with Princess and the Frog.

What's odd is that the Song of the South stuff there was all the animated bits of the movie. The animated versions of slave folklore based on folktales from Africa. Brer Rabbit is a very important cultural figure. Something that shouldn't be forgotten but is apparently being tossed out with the indiscriminate destruction wokeness is causing.

Iconoclasm seldom has room for nuance and historical reflection. I understand being grieved by the certain symbols and the good thing it is to change (kudos to MS) but there will be a lot of collateral damage to anything historic.

Guilt by association is a big problem right now. Instead of severing the good from the bad a sledgehammer is being taken to everything.

Been wondering what the protesters did to warrant being faced with weapons.?
I have seen videos from 2 angles and never saw the home owners threatened in any way.
My reading tells me they were on the way to the Mayors house to demand her resignation
They had no intention of approaching the house,

My understanding is the protesters were on the sidewalk and on the street
Perhaps the investigation the Judge orders will tell us.
Also, my reading of Missouri law says one is not to approach others with a weapon

We'll see

"Guilt by association"? You mean like assuming every black person is a criminal and murdering them in lieu of due process?

Your thoughts on this are the very definition of white privilege thinking. If you feel your people are being unfairly treated, perhaps you should take a knee.

Whose murdering all these black people again?

I'm utterly baffled by what you're talking about. I can't even fathom how you got there. I was talking about Splash Mountain and Disney animated movies and you jump to murder. What the hell?

Brer Rabbit stories are good stories and extremely important parts of American folklore. The animated portions of Song of the South are good depictions of the stories. My position is that something like the Brer Rabbit stories and the animation of them shouldn't be tossed out because of its association with the more problematic portions of Song of the South. If anything Disney should go out and animate more Brer Rabbit tales and other folk tales told by slaves and release them so that new generations of children can see them.

How in the name of all that is holy is advocating for the preservation and continued spread of important American folklore my "white privilege"? You draw that weapon too eagerly and destroy your credibility as a result. There's another folk tale about a boy and a wolf you might want to brush up on.

A reminder that #TamirRice was killed for having a toy gun,

while #PatriciaMcCloskey pointed a gun at peaceful protesters

with her hand ON the trigger & is still practicing law + sits

on the Missouri Bar Association’s ethics panel.

Is this a contest for most irrelevant comparison?

You are totally blind. That's obvious.

You are making the exact same argument that BLM is making, except in their cases, actual lives are being lost through the overzealous sledgehammer of police action. Black people are assumed to be guilty. They are taken down and choked because they are black. It's violent overreach by the police. You ignore this, and argue how sad a ride at Disneyworld is getting a makeover. Your lack of self-awareness is sad.

“I ain’t draft dodging. I ain’t burning no flag. I ain’t running to Canada. I’m staying right here. You want to send me to jail? Fine, you go right ahead. I’ve been in jail for 400 years. I could be there for 4 or 5 more, but I ain’t going no 10,000 miles to help murder and kill other poor people. If I want to die, I’ll die right here, right now, fightin’ you, if I want to die. You my enemy, not no Chinese, no Vietcong, no Japanese. You my opposer when I want freedom. You my opposer when I want justice. You my opposer when I want equality. Want me to go somewhere and fight for you? You won’t even stand up for me right here in America, for my rights and my religious beliefs. You won’t even stand up for my right here at home". - Muhammad Ali

That's not going to make members of their congregation very happy at all

they are getting "In God We Trust" on the flag instead

they will be just fine with the trade off

and they won't care about how it could be viewed as an issue of separation of church and state

Even the Southern Baptist Association applied pressure for MS to change its flag.

That flag doesn't change apart from a coalition of folk like my former prof and chancellor of RTS (a campus in the heart of Jackson and he served for years as the pastor of FPC Jackson) and a coalition of folks from the SBC and the PCA. Proud of them!

Some won't (mainly the older ones) but many have be praying and working toward this day. I ask that if don't actually know what is going on in many of my circles that you'll give a consideration of a different take.

A lot more good could come in our country if we actually not automatically discount others not in our own tribe.
