Locked out of Wealth

Homeownership has been the driving force for wealth creation in America over the past 60 years. It offers several advantages over renting: mortgages payments can essentially be locked in for 30 years, while rents will rise steadily over that time; the mortgage interest deduction gives families a significant tax break each year; and home values have risen faster than inflation. In addition, a home is an asset that is easily passed from one generation to the next.

These benefits compound and grow with time. The result is that today’s white families in America have an average of $139,300 in wealth, compared to $12,780 for the average black family. This disparity reflects a similar wealth gap between homeowners and renters. The Federal Reserve studies this and found in 2018 the average homeowner had $231,400 in wealth versus $5,200 for the average renter (which is actually down from $5,500 in 2013).

Calling it Independence Day was either dumb or intentionally divisive. Or maybe it was intended to get some people to object to giving it the same name as the existing Independence Day, so they can be branded racists.

Just trying to keep up, but July 4th is racist ?

We can simultaneously celebrate the liberation from British rule and the emancipation of slaves
One does not cancel the other.

We do celebrate Christmas and New Years in the same week ?
Even though they are in different years.
Wrap your head around that

Well from an historical perspective the British banned slavery in the 1830s. So if the revolution had failed and we had remained colonies perhaps slavery would have ended sooner here and without a civil war. Cancel the 4th?

"You don't learn from or acknowledge America's racial history!" said the people who voted for...Joe Biden. LMAO.

We're not one official Juneteenth in and I can already see what this holiday is gonna be about...an excuse for smug, white liberals to brag about their moral superiority, never questioning whether the policies they espouse are actually making things better for black Americans. Can't wait to see all the memes!

Exactly this.

Since late 19th century when America celebrates their freedom

do you think there are a number of people, like maybe 1/3 who wonder " freedom for who?"
///////

Give it a rest and get over your white male grievance. It is tired and old
might too wanna see someone about that Joy Reid fetish you keep tucked away

I identify as a homosexual black woman. Don't you dare misgender me or assume my race.

And why can't I have a Joy Reid fetish? Is it just because she's not white? You bigot.

I'm looking forward to being told about more things I didn't learn about in school (that I remember learning about in school).

Like that meme above. Who didn't learn about Tulsa or DuBois in school? Or that slavery was the primary cause of the Civil War? And I'm certain that individual Olympians or the contents of Washington's dentures never came up.

I wonder if the people who write those things believe them, or if it's just the people who share them?

I'm just here to defend the Marxist interpretation of Juneteenth. Y'all know it's a capitalist holiday to sell things no one needs. Things made from alienated labor. Same goes for Father's Day.
