Rangers rellease Josh Hamilton

He is still rehabbing his surgically repaired knee, and can't begin workouts until December. He is under contract for 2017, with the Angels playing all but $2 million.

The Rangers says they hope to bring him back next season, but had to release him now so that, if they did re-sign him, he would be able to be activated before May 15 of 2017.

I'm not saying rush out to sign him; I'm saying give him a physical and assess his knee. What have you got to lose? Hamilton, who played in only 50 games last year and none this year, is only 32 -- but he is clean. He is still tested more heaviiy than anyone in baseball.

Josh has already said he is interested in coming back to the Rangers and willing to sign a minor league deal with a Spring Training invite to do so. Plus their GM Jon Daniels comments suggest mutual interest so I expect he'll end up back in Texas if healthy enough to play anywhere.
