REAL FOOTBALL Thread

Falcons are 0-2. Kyle Pitts has 4 catches for less than 40 yards total. And it's not that he's been getting blanketed, he's just not being used.

Either Pitts has taken a massive step back and the coaching staff knows this or else Arthur Smith is a complete idiot.

Not sure what his targets are, but having Mariota as your QB certainly won't help his stats.

Smith is using Pitts as primarily a blocker. When asked about Pitts not getting targets he said "This isn't fantasy football, we're trying to win games."

So Pitts either isn't the unicorn he was billed as and so Smith is an idiot for pushing so hard to get him with the number 4 pick or else Smith is absolutely wasting Pitts in which case he's an idiot.

Arthur Smith isn't cut out to be a head coach.

If he’s open, it’s not the head coach. It’s the quarterback.

Falcons look pretty good by the way. They won’t be competitive this year, but they have a lot more talent up and down the roster than I would have thought.

I think Smith is an idiot is the answer. Pitts can block, but wasting his talents on blocking is foolish. He should be out there creating mismatches.

This is where I'm at. I saw Pitts play at Florida. I've also seen him show that talent at the NFL level. Arthur Smith is just refusing to game plan around him. Pitts is almost certainly the best player on the offense. Smith should be doing everything in his power to get the ball into Pitts' hands. That he's not tells me Arthur Smith is probably not cut out for his job.

He may not be that good.

Drake London looks completely legit already

London looks better than I expected but I'm sticking with my assessment that he's primarily a possession receiver. He's big and will create mismatches and he seems to do a good job of finding space in the secondary but I can absolutely see the questions about his speed. What speed he has seems to come from long strides. Not much burst and no real quickness.

I think London will be a guy who gets a ton of targets, excels in intermediate routes, moves the chains, and who is a great redzone target. I don't see him as a game breaker. More Keenan Allen than Julio Jones.

Y’all need to settle down. Pitts was third in targets amongst tight ends last year behind Andrews and Kelce. Getting worked up after two games is a choice (where the offense looked pretty good btw). I will be surprised if he doesn’t finish top 5 in targets this year (barring injury).

The Falcons just need to continue to lose so they are in position to get a quarterback. The rest of the offense is ahead of schedule.

What QB is out there that is worth drafting as a franchise guy?

Right now the top QBs are from Bama and OSU, 2 schools not really known for making NFL Qbs.

If Levis develops more this year he would be an interesting prospect. Young is small, Stroud has mechanical issues. None of them make me happy yet. But all could be good.

We'll see for sure. I doubt he'll be bad. He's got the perfect QB build (6'4 215) and could grow into it more and he's had every single advantage of the best coaching, best training etc.

I think you're giving Pitts way too much credit.

Pitts has been historically good as young tight end. That’s not normally a position you expect immediate production, and he’s been close to a top 5 tight end.

If he's not that guy then it was a massive waste of a draft pick. You don't spend a top 5 pick on a TE unless he's going to be the best player on the field.

I said at the time I thought it was bad pick. You had Jamaar Chase fall in your lap.

I'm not saying I think Pitts is bad or anything. He's very good. Buy he's gonna legit have to be prime Jimmy Graham for at least 4-5 years to be worthy of his selection.

Imo the real key for a TE is if they can block. If they cant them they are either a dead give away it's a pass or you are essentially running the ball with 10 players. The Saints ran into this problem with Jimmy Graham and felt as great as he was he was handicapping the offense by making it predictable.

London has been much better than I thought. Add a good fast deep threat and I think the Falcons offense would be pretty good.

Falcons are a QB and unsuspended Ridley away from an electric offense. Hopefully they suck enough and what QB they draft is legit.
