REAL FOOTBALL Thread

Browns were basically able to evaluate a college player in the NFL for a year and move down 20 spots. Not a bad move by them.

That was Trent's first fumble in the NFL and a lot of touches including his time at Alabama. He is still a good running back, but I don't know what is going with him. Donald Brown played way more last night and looked better at times as well.

I'm not saying Richardson will amount to anything (never know with anyone in the NFL, especially RBs) but I really hope the Richardson is turrible crowd will show up if he turns out. I'm sure gilesfan will just ignore posts.

I don't think a handful of weeks with a new team is enough time for a running back to get used to the system, call me crazy.

I guess being the 6th worst RB in football last year was just not having time to get used to the system as well?

Or playing on the Cleveland Browns.

I guess you presume that a player can pick up a playbook, gel with an offense and so on so forth in under 6 weeks. Especially since that offense has been working together for about 4 months in camp and what not.

If Richardson was there at 5, I wanted the Bucs to draft him, so I obviously liked him BUT it's hard to argue with stats and actually watching him....dude looks horrible.

But, but , its footballoutsiders.....they adjust for that stuff. Or do you only use for QBs?

You can keep going back to that excuse as long as you want BUT he should be still finding holes at least a few times a game.

He has more than struggled. I have faith in him being in the best possible situation for him, but I highly doubt he'll be playing at full ability with the Colts this year, I think the Colts are the best team for him. Stanford's offense was built around a power running game, and Richardson brings that dynamic. He's also really good in the passing game as both a blocker and receiver.

If you inserted another top RB onto the Colts, with a new playbook and all, sure they would have troubles with the playbook BUT their talent would also rise and you would see numbers.

And if he does?

Then I was wrong.

Dude is terrible though. For someone that is supposed to be a power runner, hes nowhere near as effective as he should be. And a first round pick for a short distance running back? That makes it even worse. Dude's longest run in his career is 27 yards, first round picks are guys that need to be difference makers.

I'm pretty sure the COlts don't run significantly different running plays than every other team in the league and Bama. He main trouble in adjusting should be pass protection.

RB's come in from off the street and produce all the time.

Plenty of RB's have found new teams and been successful, or at least not straight up putrid right off the bat. Plenty of RB's have been on terrible teams and at least averaged 4 yards per carry. Richardson has done neither. I can't imagine having to watch that guy run every week. It's literally like watching a blocking fullback get carries all game.

If he turns out to be a solid back, Giles will just say you're an idiot for believing him when he was joking but I'll be the first to admit I was wrong.

Well there's no real case study to prove your point. Only RBs I can think of who were traded midseason happened well over 20 years ago (Walker and Dickerson) in an obviously different NFL era and different situations.

Shouldn't the only difficult assignment going to a new team is to pick up the pass protection nuances to the playbook? I mean, a lot of being a RB is seeing the field and going on instincts. Even in the passing game there are limited routes a RB like Trent would run. He just looks awful right now.
