Tapate, what do you think the odds of Bartu or Worrilow replacing Dent long term are? He's clearly been our best linebacker while Dent has far and away been our worst.
I have liked them since the first game they played. I mean at this point they are playing just a touch slow because of inexperience, but I like the possibilities moving forward. Dent was a huge mistake when we drafted him. I mean, in a passing league lets take a one dimensional LB that isn't even good at that dimension (run suppoert) ???? It was an awful pick really. He continues to get outplayed by TWO "small school" UDFA's.
Bartu's highlight reel from TX St. reveals incredible play diagnosis skills. I mean simply awesome reactions and perfect fits. That is part of the game that lots of LBs don't have. Bartu has been pretty solid in coverage.
Worrilow has been a tackling machine of late. His workout numbers were crazy. I have seen less tape on him though, but if he can keep it up I don't see why he isn't a starting OLB\MLB for us. Really, all three of Spoon \ Bartu \Worrilow can all play all three in Nolans Amoeba D. Hopefully that helps us disguise coverage and move folks around. Hell, I saw Massoquoi drop into deep third coverage (like Beirman has done before him) against Buffalo.
IMO, both are landslides more athletic and quicker than Dent who is your classic stand there and take a thump tackler 4 yards up field.
Trufant has played well, and Alford played a lot vs Buffalo and had a good game. Alford is a gambler though, and his athleticism is going to play in the league though. He will make some HUGE plays, but get roasted a bit as well. Not a bad tandem to have going forward. The poor play in our secondary has been from our recently re-signed safeties. Moore hasn't been good, and neither has DeCoud.
It is hard to play CB opening day for rookies and Trufant and Alford have both held their own. Dj Hayden (who I was a fan of but the near on field death thing had most GMs frightened to well...) and Dee Milliner were pretty awful. Dee Milliner has been benched like 4 or 5 times for a guy the Falcons cut named Darren Walls.
