How about one they had on their roster who did better than he did?

Cutler is maybe a top 15-20 QB, with everything around him, he can win a SB, but he's not gonna get there alone.

Doesnt matter, as long as Rodgers is in that division, they are playing for a Wild Card.

McCown was in a better rhythm with the offense, but he's not a better QB. If Cutler scaled it back the way he should, he could be just as, if not more, successful. I don't know why teams love to throw the team on the QB's back. They didn't when McCown came in, they went more simple.

I agree with those guys, but his line isn't good and their defense is terrible.

Defense was horrible. But so was the Falcons. You wouldn't say Ryan needs more weapons around him though. Bears OL is not great but it's not bad. They should just go bonkers on defense. Make 5 of their 7 picks defense.

Well, when someone says "weapons," I think of skill position, offensive players. I said "talent" to insinuate I was talking about the team.
They have no reason not to go full defense, except for o-line. 5/7 with 2 o-line sounds good for them. They are set at the skill positions.

Would be great. Falcons will be back next year barring major injury. Thier point about the defense is interesting. Offense needs more improvement on the line.

NFC is a beast, its not a lock they even make the playoffs.

You figure Sea/SF/GB take 3 spots.

Someone from the East, there is 4.

I'd figure NO wins the South even with their cap troubles.

Then you have a lot of teams fighting for the 6th spot.

I think NO will be in trouble. Also got to remember everyone figured Atlanta would be in the playoffs and no one thought Green Bay would win 8 games. NFL changes every year. Any given Sunday and all that jazz.

GB would probably have a bye if Rodgers never went down.

If he's healthy, pretty much pencil them in for 11-12 wins every year.

No one thought he would get hurt.

Exactly. You don't know what can happen. Who'd think that ROdgers would go down (or Cutler if you flip on the Bears, or Stafford pooping the bed, etc.) Who'd think Julio would have a season ending injury week 5, yada yada yada.

If you have to hope for an injury to get in then you are in trouble. You need to make the playoffs off of the merits of your team and not the collapse of others.

Nothing to do with hoping for injuries. Injuries happen, surprise teams happen, good teams have bad seasons, etc. The NFL is build upon chance. Who'd think after how miserable the Chiefs were last year they would turn into one of the best teams in football this year? I mean I think most expected a turn aruond but not a total 180.

Chiefs are an OK team. Not one of the best teams in football. They had plenty of talent but just needed a QB that wasn't a total stiff. I think plenty of people saw this coming.

I am not going to think that Rodgers is going to get hurt next year. There are four guaranteed playoff teams as I see it going into next season:

Seattle
SF
GB
Winner of NFC Least

Falcons are fighting for two spots IMO and they have a lot of wholes to fill. Losing Gonzalez is going to be a big loss. I'd consider drafting the best TE with their second round pick or trading down in the first round.

Niners have a lot of guys hitting FA, Boldin, Whitner, Brown, Goodwin, Dawson, Manningham. and only about 10M under the cap for next year. That doesn't include the likelyhood that they'll have to work on extensions for lots of important guys who'll be FA after next season, Kaepernick, Crabtree, Iuputi, DOrsey, Kilgore, Baldwin, Hunter, and more. Niners have their best team together this year. After this year they're gonna lose a lot of important players. After the following year even more. Their draft could bolster their team and make them better or the guys could not pan out and you're still in ****.

Seachickens have less space and have restricted FA Baldwin and unrestricted FA Bennett, Giocomini, and Tate. They are in a better situation than the Niners because of WIlson having one more year of FA but they also have hitting FA in 2015 CLemens, Avril, Thomas, and Sherman, I'm sure there are more I just wanted to hit on them.

There are no such thing in the NFL as a guaranteed playoff team. You never know what can happen, you even admit that the NFC is stacked, but you're locking in 3 teams. Green Bay you have a great case cause they have far and away the best QB in the NFC. But that doesn't mean a lock into the playoffs. If the rest of the team sucks ROdgers can't do it all. NFL is full of surprises, 3 division winners from last year are picking in the top 10. 2 teams from the top 5 pick this year went on to win 10+ games. IN a small sample like the NFL anything can happen. you can hedge bets on likely teams.

Falcons have some concerns. I would consider trading out of the first unless Clowney falls to the pick, love Barr but if someone will pay a big price to move up to Atlanta's pick I would be more than happy with sliding down and getting Hageman, Nix, Mack, Beasley or one of the many good OTs. Extra picks are key. If say the Ravens want to trade up to 6 and offer a 1-2-4 next year 1-3 you have to say yes. Hell if a team in the 20s offers it I'd say yes. Say the Broncos decide to sell the farm and basically do a RIcky Williams trade and give the Falcons their 1-2-3-4 and next years 1 to try to win it all if they don't this year, then of course you do it. Falcons can fill a chunk of their needs in FA with the right moves. Losing TOny will suck, but whatever loss they have from him they make up getting Julio back. I also think they may go to more 3 WR sets and basically treat Roddy in the same way they traded Tony as the possession type. Losing Tony will sting, but it won't hurt too bad. He was great for th eFalcons but it's not like he was dominating. It's not like he's a Gronk/Davis/Graham type of TE. Great and will be missed, but improvements on the line and the safety valve doesn't need to be used as often. Healthy Julio and Jackson more than make up for Tony. Jackson of course may not be healthy, not betting on that, just making a statement.

Also lol @ Chiefs not being one of the best teams in Football. Chiefs were the 7th most effiecient team int he NFL. tied with the 49ers. I guess you don't consider the Niners one of the best teams in the NFL. Chiefs went from legit worst team in the NFL (32nd in DVOA) to 7th.

Also there may not be a quieter great team than the Saints, they keep not getting mentioned in the discussion, but if they can get out of Philly (gonna be 28) they are JMO the best team to take Seattle out at home. I would wager Carolina as the second best. Carolina is a better team than NO but Newton is a real wild card. If he's on they can beat Seattle on the road, if he's off they get murdered.

From the 49er board I post on:

From my understanding from a thread in the draft talk forum, I came to a possible 22.5 million in cap room for 2014.

Like this: Current 2014 cap room 7.6 + 3.3 2013 carry over + Rogers cut after June 1st 6.6 + 5 in re-negotiations. This equals 22.5.

Potential cuts/cap savings
Jon Baldwin - 1.377
Craig Dahl - 1.65
Dan Skuta - 1.5
Adam Snyder - 1.05

Another possible 5.577 if I did this correctly. Referenced Niner Salary Cap Hell.

All together a possible 28 million.
