REAL FOOTBALL Thread

I don't agree with Zito, but it only takes one.

Of course that is true but when you have statistically taken less hits than most QB's in the NFL since the time he took over as a starter then I think its fair to say that he is "relatively" safer.

Also, the notion that taking a hit outside the pocket and on the run being more dangerous is complete rubbish (UK partners are on my engagement team right now). If you are in the pocket you barely have any time to brace for a hit and often times its a freakish 270 pound defensive end crashing down on you. When you are on the run you are often getting tackled by defensive backs and you are able to brace for the hit by leaning away from the contact.

When you're in the pocket you also rarely take a big hit. Most hits in the pocket are coming in the 50-70% range. Still stngs of course. Big difference between hits in the pocket though and when someone has a shot to square up a great hit.

For example, you don't take hits like this in the pocket

Not to mention it's well knownthat teams aim to hurt running QBs.

A 70-80% hit from a defensive lineman is equivalent to a 100% hit from a defensive back. Again, you have no evidence to support the claim that you made while I showed you that Ryan has taken far many more hits the last two years.

QBs that are hit in the pocket also dont have time to brace themselves or prepare for the hit. Its why you see injuries inside the pocked like Big Ben, Palmer, Brady, etc.

There *may be big hits outside of the pocket, but they don't tend to be shredded knees and such that you typically see inside the pocket.

How many QBs can you name that were injured running outside of the pocket? RG3, Bradford, and Rodgers? Both on designed passes. Off the top of my head, I can name some QBs that got injured inside the pocket; Romo, Big Ben, Palmer, Brady, Eli, Cutler..

Just adding my 2 cents to a retarded and pointless argument.

Exactly, a blindside hit from a defensive end is about the worst thing that can happen to a quarterback and yet the pocket QB's are safer.

Sources tell the Boston Globe that Colin Kaepernick wants a deal similar to or slightly better than the ones recently signed by Jay Cutler and Tony Romo.

Wish he would take less but QB's might start getting 24M a year in two years.

Yeah, thats not too bad for Kap these days these days given the cap and insane QB deals.

You mean hard hits on the knees like

Also when the hell was Eli hurt inside the pocket? He's literally played every game since becoming a starter.

You can also add McNabb, Vick, and just from last year, Ponder, Rodgers, Manuel, Pryor, and some others I'm sure i"m forgetting.

Considering there are only a handful of running QBs, and pretty much all of them get hurt and get hurt a lot (see Vick, McNabb, McNair)

Lets look at the active consecutive games played for QBs, Eli, Rivers, Flacco, Brady, Ryan, Brees.

Notice a trend?

I mentioned RG3 getting hurt. (he did miss the next game)

Eli got hurt in week 17 If it wasn't last game of season he would have missed some games.

Ponder was injured inside the pocket. Manuel was injured inside and outside the pocket. I don't know when Pryor got injured. Steve McNair played a **** ton of games.

Brees missed a lot of time with a ****ed up shoulder. Brady blew a knee out. Rivers blew a knee out.

Those guys all got hurt once. And that was it.

And this doesn't look like an injury in the pocket to me

Eli had a high ankle sprain, may have missed time, may not have. Several guys have played through high ankle sprains before.

Brady had a one time injury and is still playing at 37 and has played 193 games (191 starts) McNair was out of football before turning 35 and played 161 games (153 starts)

Find me a running QB who played after 35. I'll bet the list is very small.

Depends on what you consider a "running" QB. How many running quarterbacks total are there in the history of the NFL?

Cam Newton, Colin Kaeprnick, RGMe, Pyror, Smith (Geno and Alex), then you have borderline guys like Foles, Luck, Dalton, etc. Then you have true pocket guys like Ryan, Rivers, Eli, Peyton, Brady, Brees, etc.

So how often have Kaep, Newton, Alex Smith, Foles, Luck, or Dalton gotten hurt?

How many of those guys are even 35 to judge the injury histories of running QBs and if they last past 35?

If I'm the Pats or Seahawks I'm all over that. To me it's a worthwhile gamble for a shot at the superbowl. 2 1s for one of the best impact players in the NFL, you have to love that. Also could you imagine Graham and Gronk (if he can get on the field) on the same field? That would be a nightmare matchup.

Yes it would but putting all your resources into offense doesnt always work out well, even though Gronk and Graham would be insane.

NO will probably match any offer though.
