REAL FOOTBALL Thread

It's a no brainer that they aren't equal physically. You don't go knocking sandwich makers out in an elevator because they slapped you or whatever. I'm all for "If you come at me like a man, I'm going to put you down like a man" but she obviously wasn't some burly chick that knew how to fight. She came at him with the usual girly slaps and arm punches we all deal with. He was just mad at whatever was being said and responded with a Money Mayweather haymaker. If it was on a dude I'm sure most people would be fine with it but some petite woman is not even close to being physically equal to a pro football player.

Most people aren't close to being physically equal to a pro football player. I still think if it was a man of similar size to his wife people would still say he shouldn't have picked a fight. My point is she has no more right to girly slap and arm punches him than he does to punch her. This was a mutual abuse situation, he should have shown more restraint but she is no angel.

I think Rice reacted out of anger. I don't think this is a case of repeated abuse by him. I think they have had a lot of mutual abuse in the past. I think they are both guilty and need anger management counseling.

I do find it a bit amusing that it's Goodell catching the heat, but knowing him we'll get some overreaction now so he can prove how tough he is. This story needs to die. It should not be overshadowing the new season.

Well, I bet Saints fans are eating this up.

Oh we are. Several journalists are calling Goodell out for being a hypocrite. In bounty gate he said ignorance of the program was not valid because Payton was in charge and should have known. Now he is claiming ignorance of seeing the video. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he did not see the video, he doesn't seem to care about facts and evidence when punishing people.

The NFL will conduct an investigation with former FBI Director Robert Mueller heading it up

This is turning into a bad joke. I don't understand why this is such a huge story. The NFL never ignored it whether they saw the tape or not. They suspended him for two games. That sounds about right for assault. Also the people complaining the most probably aren't even football fans. I bet hardly anyone doesn't renew their season tickets because of this.

Men are naturally stronger so it really doesn't matter if a guy and his wife are the same size. The guy has a huge strength advantage in almost every case. Yeah I mean you're right that logically women have no more right to slap us or punch our arms than we do in punching them back. But we don't just go around knocking every girl out that punches our chest or whatever.

Now if it's a bull dyke in a flannel, then by all means go ahead and knock her into next Tuesday.

Goodell getting fired or resigning in disgrace would be like winning the super bowl to me. Knowing that his words from bountygate are going to be used against him makes it even better. Karma is a bitch.

I see both sides. What he did is despicable, but he is hardly the first athlete to beat his wife. I don't agree with the indefinite suspension (it's unprecedented in the NFL for this crime), but I think the Ravens made the right move by releasing him (though a little too late if you ask me).

He'll donate a lot of money to Domestic Violence support groups and he'll go to anger management therapy. Another Tony Dungy type will praise the progress he has made and call for support from teams to give him another shot.

Two games sounds "about right" for decking a woman and knocking her out?

So can we resume football talk? I am so sick of hearing about this non-story.

Kind of odd schedule for the Ravens. Two games at home against division opponents to start the season off. No team has ever reached the playoffs after losing two of these such games to open a season. It's a big game for Baltimore and it's only week 2.

I am really bored at the moment. Pick one player at QB who you build a franchise around right now. Age and other things play a factor in your decision.

I pick Andrew Luck without a doubt. Kind of an easy question I suppose. Just want to see if someone can make a case for a different quarterback.

Its either Luck or Rodgers. The guys after that are interesting. Starting to lean towards Stafford and of course Kap.
