REAL FOOTBALL Thread

Best of luck Hawk. Hope your second bout is better than the first.

Bills win the division. Which means we get the fun Chiefs/Dolphins which should be a pisspoor defensive game.

Will be interesting to see how Browns/Texans plays out.

Thanks Zeet! Now they have a med that's supposed to help kill the Covid virus faster than just letting it run its course. They prescribed it for my wife last Thursday. They call it a "cocktail". I was interested last week when they prescribed hers until I found out it was 3 pills 2x daily it didn't sound as good. lol

Anyway, I got mine today so hopefully this crap will be history soon, I'm more than sick of it, especially the sore throat. I haven't had a sore throat this bad for literally decades.

Not to mention he’s drafted a kicker and punter in the top 3 rounds recently

Well he didn't do that. Don't get me wrong, he drafted a kicker in the 4th round which is still dumb. And his punter was a 6th round pick. And took a kicker in the 5th round of 2020 who's out fof the NFL and punter in the 2019 draft. But it's dumb. Cause you can sign a FA kicker and punter for relatively cheap.

Consider this, in the same draft that Justin Tucker, the greatest kicker of all time, didn't get drafted, John Potter, who kicked 4 field goals his entire nfl career, Randy Bullock who's done a solid NFL career, but hardly I think what anyone would want to use a 5th round pick, Blair Walsh who also had a solid NFL chip but not amazing, and the best being Greg Zuerlein, who I think you still woudl argue isn't worth that pick.

I was just going off memory but it changes nothing. Taking a kicker or punter higher than round 7 is supremely dumb.

If Belichick were to leave the Patriots, I think he'd use Atlanta like Bill Parcells did, just use them to get a better offer somewhere else.

If Belichick did somehow end up in Atlanta, I think you'd see the Falcons go hard after Cousins. Belichick is, I think, 72 now so there has to be a sense of urgency with him. I don't see him doing something like drafting a QB who might take a couple years to develop. Cousins would make the Falcons instantly the heavy favorite for the NFC south and a team with a chance to win some in the playoffs.

The Falcons would do something stupid like hiring Belichick... his talent evaluation over the past 4-6 years or so has been just as bad as Smith's... game has passed him by. I mean, I guess if we had BB we could look forward to some kickers and punters taken in the top 3 rounds.

Belichick is a good coach but he would rather lose his way than win any other way. He is as good of defensive coach as there is in the NFL but he was so successful that he was able to leverage complete control of the team. Anyone without a massive ego would have understood that he needs to stick to his lane and let someone else worry about the offensive side of the ball. I think he would have a lot of success if he went to a team with any already good offense with a franchise QB. He just cant build a good offense from a bad one. I wonder what its like working with him behind the scenes, like with the draft, do people just break out in laughter when he offers his opinion on WR prospects?

I'm not totally against the Cousins angle... just watching him so much up here (I'm in the middle of Vikings country... gross)... it just seems like there's something missing in his game. His numbers are always impressive, and I really like him as a guy... but I just can't put my finger on it... something's just missing with him. Maybe he still just hasn't had the right coach/ensemble cast... I dunno. If they are drafting a QB, I would hope it's either Daniels or Maye (not sure I want to trade up for a guy who seems so soft in Williams... I think he's going to be a bust even though he has tons of ability). Stay far away from McCarthy and Penix please.

Cousins wouldn't be my first choice. I'd rather get the QB of the future and try to get a sustained competitive window opened. But if the focus is win now then I think they'll go after Cousins.

They're likely going to have to trade up to get any of Daniels, Maye, or Williams. If Chicago sticks with Fields they have a chance. If not, then those three are likely the first three off the board. If Chicago does stick with Fields, I think they'll swap picks with the Commanders so they still get first pick of non-QBs.

So if Chicago decides to stick with Fields, the Falcons would need to target the Cards or the Chargers as New York would pick any of the top 3 QBs left to them.

As for Penix, it's all bout his health. If he didn't have the injury history he'd probably be in the conversation with Williams, Maye, and Daniels. Penix is probably the best pure passer in this draft. That injury history is a huge question mark though.

I’m not sure Penix is anywhere near the top after last night. He threw off his back foot not necessarily most of the night

He missed almost all of his open WRs

He was also playing behind a totally overmatched offensive line. Washington was overwhelmed as a team.

Teams will look at more than the championship game in grading him out. He looked awesome in the semi-finals but that wont be all teams will look at either.

The Falcons problem is where they're picking. They're too far back to have any prayer of getting Maye, Williams, or Daniels yet too high to justify Penix or McCarthy. If the Bears decide to keep Fields, I'd offer them whatever it takes to get their pick. Whatever we pay, if we get a franchise QB it'll be worth it.

I don't know... as soon as Penix saw the least amount of pressure, he looked like a deer in headlights and his throwing mechanics are terrible. Add on the health issues and no thanks.

The problem for Penix is that he really never played a real defense until Michigan... Texas is not a good defense. The Falcons are definitely going to have to trade up to get one of the big 3... and I think they will.

I'm kind of on board with SIgn cousins or trade for Fields (if we can get him for like a 3rd round pick next year) and see who's there in the top of the 2nd round.

Looking at some mocks, Williams, Maye, Daniels going in some combo of 1-4 is most likely with MHJr being the other pick. So eliminate those 4. Which leaves the falcons looking at let's assume Alt and Nabirs go next. that would leave us with one of Odunze, Bowers, Turner or Fashanu. Bowers won't be taken because he's a TE. Unless we get a coach who wants to run 2 TE system and treat Pitts as more of a slash, which would be dumb. Leaving us with a talented WR or talented OT. Neither would be bad. Matthews could be cut. Turner is an edge rusher we desperately need.

The Pats will be where our shot at getting a QB will go. If the Pats don't take a QB, then we likely can trade up to 5 without giving up way too much to get Daniels.

What will be interesting to see shake out is the Bears. We may not have to trade up if this scenario happens. If the Pats aren't going QB because they want a longer rebuild (not the worst idea with Buffalo and Miami doing so good right now) and instead they could take Alt, plan on sucking and get the top QB next year. If the bears trade back to the Giants pick, and the Pats don't take a QB we could have Daniels there at 8. Don't think it's likely because I expect someone else to trade up but it's not impossible.

Cards aren't taking a QB, they're still banking on Kyler, Chargers aren't taking a QB. Giants probably will take a QB but still may not because of how much money is tied up with Jones. Titans coudl take a QB but they may want to see if Levis has it.

Honestly I can see this draft going a crazy number of ways that I may just prefer we sign a QB like Cousins and go from there. There's a decent shot if a bunch of players do declare that Ewers, Pratt or Rattler could be there in the 2nd, that's assuming that Nix, Penix and McCarthy go in the first. I've seen it all over the place.

Bill officially done in NE. Think that makes it 8 vacancies now open.

NE/Atl/Was/Ten/Car/Vegas/LAC/Sea. Kinda surprised Chicago kept Eberflus.

Bring in BB
McDaniels too
Don’t let him GM
Mortgage the future and move up for Caleb Williams

Profit in the playoffs.
