REAL FOOTBALL Thread

It would be the most Jerry Jones move. Does Belichick want to go from an owner who loved him and gave him free reign to an owner who's all up in the business of his team?

My guess is no, Bill would almost certainly want NO part of Jerry's meddling, besides I'm wondering if Bill is seriously burned out at this point. I'd say he needs a couple of years off to recharge and given his age that probably isn't ever going to happen. Sadly I think Bill is fried and probably headed for that big sideline called retirement. I'd say he's earned it.

Belichick loves him some football. He might need time off but I doubt he wants it. I think he is desperate to prove he can win without Brady. Anyone that hires him that doesnt already have a franchise QB is just asking for trouble. BB can only draft a franchise QB on accident.

I know Dak had an MVP caliber season, but you can't **** the bed this many times in the playoffs and be given the benefit of the doubt. Especially when you are playing at home against the No. 7 seed.

If I am Jerry, I am moving on from him. Since he's an elite regular season QB, someone will easily give you a 1st rounder and more for him.

Coach will get the blame first. If Dak does the same next year then you know for sure.

He’s been through what 4 coaches?

McCarthy didn’t toss those picks.

He is what he is at this point.

I agree but sometimes you just scheme big plays and there was nothing out there plus the defense deciddd not to show up at all.

The coaches should get the blame first and foremost, IMO. Here's a basic copy/paste of a text I sent to a friend yesterday when she told me a message someone had sent to her, "Dak's gonna Dak".

So, here's my point, would Dak have sucked SOOOOOOOOOOOO bad during the past 3 playoff fiascos if:
he had Mike Shanahan, Andy Reid, Sean Payton, Sean Mcvay, Zac Taylor, John Harbaugh, Dan Campbell, etc.? If you're SURE of that then you get rid of him and take your salary cap lumps and move on. If not you hire somebody like a Belichick as HC, then get some bright new minds as coordinators, OC and DC, let them have Dak for an offseason and a regular season and if the same crap keeps happening, get rid of him and start over at QB. In the meantime check out Rush and Lance, see what they can do, let Dak see and know what you're doing and after ONE season maybe you can make a better decision than what we'll see if they make one now.

Right now, the Cowboys schemes are as easy to figure out as the plots of those old serials like Batman, or the western serials of the 1950s. There's no mystery to them. When the Cowboys play a team of lesser talent (and let's be honest, the Cowboys are certainly a top-5 NFL team if you only base it on overall talent) they win, usually by a lot. When the playoffs roll around though there aren't anymore "Washington Generals" to feast on. The teams are better, usually playing their best football of the season, and are usually led by people with their heads outside of their arses. These coaches watch the tape, figure out holes in the Cowboys schemes, offense and defense, and then when game day rolls around, they hit the Cowboys with stuff they haven't seen before or maybe just don't know how to attack or defend against, and the Cowboys coaches can't or won't make adjustments. To me, that sounds like a blueprint for the crap we see every year come playoff time.

McCarthy is by far the best HC the Cowboys have had since Jimmy Johnson left. The problem is, he still isn't good enough.

I've always defended Dan Quinn on here, no matter who else I've bashed. After yesterday, that's over. I guess my personal favorite defensive scheme from Quinn would be, "OK, we're going to cover everybody on the other team like an absolute blanket, except Romeo Doubs of course. We're not gonna cover him AT ALL. And after getting burned time and time again by that stupid approach, let's not adjust, surely he'll drop one of those cupcakes sooner or later, right?

I don't consider Matt LaFleur a terrible HC but I don't consider him to be in the same league as those other HCs I mentioned earlier. Same with Jordan Love, he's a good QB, but he's not Aaron Rodgers in his prime either, at least not yet. Yet, yesterday they both carved up the Cowboys like Thanksgiving turkeys, which is appropriate I guess since that's how they looked all day.

Prove you've got a clue (finally) Jerry. Let that brief time you were around Jimmy Johnson (when he finally got into the Ring of Honor a couple of weeks back) have some positive effect on you and do what you have to do. Clean house Jerry!!! Everybody NOT named Will McClay is a prime candidate to "hit the road"

Cowboys played bad all around. But Dak was your MVP can candidate and he played like straight garbage. You don't really see that from Mahomes. And even when a guy like Allen turns it over, he generally can create enough offense to overcome it. Dak can't do that. I don't know if it's mental or what. But he lacks that gene.

That texts a joke right ? There’s no way you believe that ?

OK, which part? Maybe I didn't type it like I was thinking it. I do think it's best to fix the coaching situation first, THEN evaluate your QB, as well as all your other players. Dak has flat out sucked in the playoffs the last 3 years but nothing the coaching staff did put him in a position to succeed. If you get a new QB (let's assume a great, can't miss QB) and keep the same crappy preparation you'll ruin him too. It's like when you're troubleshooting something with multiple parts, if you change 5 or 6 different things at once and now it works you'll still have to go back through and check the pieces you changed one at a time, unless you just want to replace 5 or 6 different things without knowing.

You are definitely right about one thing though, it is all a big joke because Jerry is already making excuses for why McCarthy is the best choice for the job and it was just something or someone else causing the problems. So, nothing's going to change. So, give Dallas a really great QB, young or old, take Dak and ship him to China or wherever and let's see what happens. Something really needs to change in Dallas. I'd rather change the coaches first but if you can help them change QB's first I'm more than willing to go that route too.

The problem is, nothing is going to change as long as Jerry still runs things. He CANNOT accept that he put together a product that doesn't work when it comes to crunch time. On the bright side, this is great news for all the Cowboys haters out there. I hope they howl long, hard, and loud right in Jerry's ears 24/7.

Interesting thought, if Denver cuts Wilson, would he sign a show-me/**** you contract? Would he go to a team who's good but could use a QB like Atlanta, Tampa, etc. and try and win now and show up Denver? Or is he just taking money?

Dark Steelers got crushed like everyone but thethe knew they would. When you don't have even a decent QB, you aren't going anywhere in the playoffs. It's a small miracle they even snuck in.

Not that it was any better before but I think they would have faired better prior to the injury. Steelers actually had a lot of talent.

But dark horses make the playoffs!

What exactly is wrong with the coaching ? Your best team in what 10 years and it’s the coaches fault your qb **** the bed ? Gimme a break.

Steelers have a lot of talent, except at QB. It's impossible to win the NFL without a good QB. Not even an elite or great QB.

Steelers could be the team that winds up with WIlson for that reason if he's cut. Wilson would turn them into a title contender. Pickett is garbage?

McCarthy has a ring. and before Joining Dallas a winning playoff record. I don't think McCarthy is a great coach, but I mean blaming everything on him is classic Dallas ****.
