Coach will get the blame first. If Dak does the same next year then you know for sure.
The coaches should get the blame first and foremost, IMO. Here's a basic copy/paste of a text I sent to a friend yesterday when she told me a message someone had sent to her, "Dak's gonna Dak".
So, here's my point, would Dak have sucked SOOOOOOOOOOOO bad during the past 3 playoff fiascos if:
he had Mike Shanahan, Andy Reid, Sean Payton, Sean Mcvay, Zac Taylor, John Harbaugh, Dan Campbell, etc.? If you're SURE of that then you get rid of him and take your salary cap lumps and move on. If not you hire somebody like a Belichick as HC, then get some bright new minds as coordinators, OC and DC, let them have Dak for an offseason and a regular season and if the same crap keeps happening, get rid of him and start over at QB. In the meantime check out Rush and Lance, see what they can do, let Dak see and know what you're doing and after ONE season maybe you can make a better decision than what we'll see if they make one now.
Right now, the Cowboys schemes are as easy to figure out as the plots of those old serials like Batman, or the western serials of the 1950s. There's no mystery to them. When the Cowboys play a team of lesser talent (and let's be honest, the Cowboys are certainly a top-5 NFL team if you only base it on overall talent) they win, usually by a lot. When the playoffs roll around though there aren't anymore "Washington Generals" to feast on. The teams are better, usually playing their best football of the season, and are usually led by people with their heads outside of their arses. These coaches watch the tape, figure out holes in the Cowboys schemes, offense and defense, and then when game day rolls around, they hit the Cowboys with stuff they haven't seen before or maybe just don't know how to attack or defend against, and the Cowboys coaches can't or won't make adjustments. To me, that sounds like a blueprint for the crap we see every year come playoff time.
McCarthy is by far the best HC the Cowboys have had since Jimmy Johnson left. The problem is, he still isn't good enough.
I've always defended Dan Quinn on here, no matter who else I've bashed. After yesterday, that's over. I guess my personal favorite defensive scheme from Quinn would be, "OK, we're going to cover everybody on the other team like an absolute blanket, except Romeo Doubs of course. We're not gonna cover him AT ALL. And after getting burned time and time again by that stupid approach, let's not adjust, surely he'll drop one of those cupcakes sooner or later, right?
I don't consider Matt LaFleur a terrible HC but I don't consider him to be in the same league as those other HCs I mentioned earlier. Same with Jordan Love, he's a good QB, but he's not Aaron Rodgers in his prime either, at least not yet. Yet, yesterday they both carved up the Cowboys like Thanksgiving turkeys, which is appropriate I guess since that's how they looked all day.
Prove you've got a clue (finally) Jerry. Let that brief time you were around Jimmy Johnson (when he finally got into the Ring of Honor a couple of weeks back) have some positive effect on you and do what you have to do. Clean house Jerry!!! Everybody NOT named Will McClay is a prime candidate to "hit the road"
