REAL FOOTBALL Thread

Not that it was any better before but I think they would have faired better prior to the injury. Steelers actually had a lot of talent.

But dark horses make the playoffs!

They had 1 of the 3 worst QB situations in the NFL. I don't really care what the rest of the roster looked like, they were never going far in playoffs with Pickett/Rudolf as their QB.

What exactly is wrong with the coaching ? Your best team in what 10 years and it’s the coaches fault your qb **** the bed ? Gimme a break.

Dak was ass. But the high praised defense played like **** and hadn't been for severak weeks. Zero run game. They weren't that good.

McCarthy has virtually nothing to do with the Dallas failure. You have a veteran QB who played like an MVP this year. You expect him to at least give your team a chance at home against a 7th seed. Instead, he **** the bed like he has done time and time again in big games.

Dak is a QB that would probably fare well for a smaller market team with a really good defense. Atlanta, Minny, or Denver are good fits. Pitt and New England to a lesser extent. Maybe even Seattle if they decide to move on from Geno this off-season (unlikely, imo.)

If Dallas was looking to move Dak I'd hope Atlanta would be interested.

Jason Kelce retiring. Ending one of the more impressive OL careers of all time. 9 straight seasons never missing a game is an impressive streak.

Eagles blew a golden opportunity to win it all last season. Had the team, coaching staff, health.

Didn't have the health, part of what made the Eagles D so good last year, was their depth. THey lost so much of that this year to injuries and Free Agency.

Will be interesting to see how they do next year. More will certainly be asked of Hurts. I think their window still has an opening for next year, it's after that things will get dicey because of how backloaded Hurts's deal is.

The wall the Niners will be coming up against after next year is Aiyuk's free agency (as well as Armistead but he's older and more sacrificable) then the following year is the **** one. 2025 is the last year of contracts for Deebo, McCaffery, Kittle, and Purdy. And then you'll find out if Purdy is that Dude. Can he play when he's more than what .3% of the cap? If the Niners are smart, they either sell out for victory then nuke it and rebuild, or they extend Purdy now softening his extension blow (try and convince him to sign something like an 8/200 with only like 50M guaranteed) they can backload a bit and get a bit more of a cap hit now at a future savings.

I think the main point of disagreement here is that you guys want to blame Dak first and the coaches "not so much". OK, I see your point, Dak sucked Sunday and has in every truly meaningful game of his career. If Dak is shipped out, released, etc., that's fine. I never said he wasn't partly to blame. What I was trying to say is that the coaches sucked too. I tried to sayd that proven really good coaches like Shanahan, Reid, etc., might have done a better job preparing him, that's all. Dak was not well prepared, in fact he looked as clueless as a supposedly great QB could. Is all that on him? Maybe, but it seems like when Dak gets hit with situations, defenses, etc., he can't handle McCarthy or some other offensive coach could have helped him.

If they tried and he ignored them then ship him out of town and keep them. The only time I've seen Purdy look really bad in a game is when he gets too much pressure from the other side's defense. Even then Shanahan can usually make some adjustments to help him. Same thing with Reid. Mahomes sometimes has issues when the other team's defense gets through KC's protection. Even then Reid can usually make some adjustments to help him. So, does that mean Purdy and Mahomes are better than Dak? Well, yeeeaaahh. I'm just wondering about the rest of the story. After all I think we can all agree that generally speaking Quinn is a really good defensive coordinator and I think Dallas' defense looked worse on Sunday than Dak did. What was up with that?

Does this help clarify my points? Again, Dak is the QB and he makes $40mil a year so I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a little more from him than what happens when you break up with Amber Heard. All I've ever said is that there's more to Dallas' "sucking major arse" in the playoffs than JUST Dak.

Fields would be a mistake imo.

There’s been heat on BB to Atl well before he left NE. We need a culture change but he’d need to give up GM and personnel duties

Fields is all about the opportunity cost. If the top 3 QBs are off the board in the draft and we don't have to give up a high pick, then there's no real reason not to take a flyer on him. He's miles better than Ridder.

You just don't want to go with Fields if someone like Daniels is going to be on the board at 8.

Fields isn't gonna be a star, but he could work out for Atlanta with the right OC. But I would rather go with Wilson or Cousins as a FA and keep my picks myself.

Also, if I am the Rams I would heavily consider trading Stafford. He came on strong towards the end of this season with 17 TDs in his last 7 games, which I think was tops in the league. But he turns 36 in 2 weeks and their cap situation isn't the greatest. If they restructured him, it would give him a cap hit of 60+ million in 2025. I suppose they could give him a new contract with more guaranteed money, but at his age with the injuries, that seems like a poor decision too.

Whatever they decide, they would be wise to invest in QB within the first 2 rounds this year. Could probably nab someone like McCarthy or Nix in 20's or trade up in the 2nd round and get whichever of the top 6 guys falls out of the 1st.

And before any of the UGA fan boys chime in, Stetson Bennett is not an NFL caliber starting QB.

If you're taking a chance on a risky QB that's available, it might as well be Wilson or Cousins.

It really depends if you're wanting to take a swing at fixing the position long term or trying to maximize your chances for the next year or two. Both Wilson and Cousins turn 36 this year so you don't have a long window with them and you're running the risk that this is the year they collapse like Matt Ryan did with the Colts.

Personally I go with Fields and target a burner WR in the draft. Fields has a much higher ceiling than Wilson or Cousins and doesn't carry the risk of age related collapse.

You gotta pay Fields soon.

I don’t wanna be in the Daniel Jones territory

For sure. But he has 2 years of real cheap. Falcons will also have to pay Pitts at the same time so they could attempt to push the chips in to win now then rebuild after 2025.

Would be an interesting gambit to trade 2024 and 2025 first round picks to the Pats or Cardinals for their pick and take MHJ. An offense with Fields, MHJ, Pitts, London, and Bijan would be a wild offense to see.
