REAL FOOTBALL Thread

Oh I wasn't talking about a straight up swap. The Cowboys have zero leverage in such a trade scenario. It would be Dak plus picks to move up to number 1 overall. The Titans will surely have offers from other teams that will include multiple 1st round picks and 2nd/3rd round picks. Dak isn't getting anywhere close to that value if the Cowboys decided to trade him in March.

The biggest problem is they almost cannot trade him until June 1. If they trade him before they'll have a 104 million dollar cap hit. Maybe there's a way they could restructure then trade him? If they trade Dak they have 0 cap space which means they'll have to restructure and do other things to get under the cap to sign guys. I assume a micah extension to alleviate his 2025 cap hit is the first step. But that's not how to build a winning team, Maybe extend and restructure martin? I don't knwo where they can free up a ton of cap space they'll need to make an impact signing and draft well.

Anyway the sisue is the massive cap hit to trade him pre-June 1. Maybe the 2 sides could agree to a deal in principle then just wait until June 1. Like in the crazy scenario I had above. But that would piss off the NFL for sure.

It think it's more likely the Raiders or Giants trade up, won't require them taking as much of a hit, probably just a pair of 1s, a 2 and a 3.

The other option is the Cowboys could move up to # 1 anyways to take Sanders and look to trade Dak after June 1 to a team like Oakland or Indy. Dak is still easily worth at least one 1st round pick, probably 2.

Cowboys sell the farm for Sanders with 3 first round picks. Then trade Dak in June to Oakland for their next 2 1st rounders. Come out the other side with a new franchise QB without sacrificing future draft capital.

Still a weighty contract without the guarantee. Like his annual is still 40

That's the average QB salary. And they can move on basically at any time. Dak is 1 year removed from finishing 2nd MVP. You're insane if you think he won't bring back at least one 1st rounder (probably two). Just look at the Wilson and Watson trades.

Both of those trades were heavily criticized. Wilson because of his age, and Watson because of his rapes.

Dak is on the wrong end of 30 and has been mediocre to mid almost all the time.

So where does Darnold go? He's going to find a spot to give him a shot where does he go? Part of this will be who sees themselves taking a QB.

So when we look at teams who sucked at QB in 2025 you see.

Cleveland - Dashaun and Jameis - Jameis did some OK stuff, but Watson was ****ing terrible.
Titans - Levis was god awful, Though they're in poll position to draft a QB.
Raiders - Seems like Raiders want Shadeur and Shadeur wants the Raiders.
Giants - Another team looking for a QB.
Colts - Richardson has been historically bad, do they give up on him?
Steelers - Both their QBs are free agents. So they'll be in the market. I actually think there is an interesting debate of they should sign Darnold and draft a project QB.

SO if we accept there are 2 legit QB talents we can delete 2 from the list. Titans and Browns could trade out to extend rebuild. So lets limit the market as much as possible. Browns and Titans trade out and say we're going to suck another year (without saying it) and play for Arch and Iamaleava. Giants and Raiders trade up to get their QBs. Colts have the cap space but does ti make sense? Makes more sense IMO to stick to Richardson for one more year and if he doesn't have it he doesn't have it. Maybe take Milroe or Ewers in the second round. Whi

Steelers and Darnold kind of makes perfect sense. While they're more likely ot resign Wilson, that won't be seen as a positive move while signing Darnold could have some potential positivity.

Don't rule out Seattle or LA for Darnold. Stafford could choose to retire after this season. And after a very mediocre 2024 season from Geno, the Seahawks might feel they need to move on.

Fair enough. LA would be funny to land because he'd probably kill it there since O'Connell is from McVey's tree.

I'm probably not going to be staying up til the end of the game. But Commanders look good so far. Now Goff is missing time. Could set up for a hilarious Jared Goff second half return for a wrestling drama moment.

It's impossible for the Lions to win with the injuries they have on defense.

Play crappy you lose. The Lions obviously have been hamstrung by injuries on defense, but poor play calling, poor execution, and a bunch of boneheaded plays killed them tonight.

Offense still scored 31 points.

Even with 4 picks the Commanders don't score more than 24 points against this D if well.

Commanders offense has been awesome. Maybe they don't if they're really healthy, but this defense just shut out the Vikings even after losing the turnover battle. Reality was they faced an offense they couldn't make mistake against.

If Goff played like he did vs. the Bills they win that game.
