REAL FOOTBALL Thread

I really figured it was Kubiak at this point. That’s interesting

I'm torn on Stefanski... he's done some really great coaching jobs, and he's been fairly mid... but it was with the Browns... look what happened when Bill B got out of the Browns. At least it came out that he was against adding Watson. Vrabel has a ton of good things to say about him... of course Tomlin said Raheem was a great hire for Atlanta... so grain of salt and all. I personally would rather give Klint a shot, but Stefanski could be a really awesome post-hype coach.

Yeah, Zach Klein now hearing Stefanski and Ian Cunningham... I think I'm happy with that pairing. Sounds like the Falcons pivoted to interviewing him today before his Titans interview... I'm guessing they are hoping he won't leave the building without a contract.

Stafanski is kind of a meh hire. A couple years ago he looked like the next great coach but more recently he's looked like the league caught up with him and he can't adjust.

How often do guys who go sub-.500 in their first HC stint end up being successful elsewhere? It doesn't seem to happen a ton. The best coaches in the league either 1) are on their first teams as HC; or 2) had success before they're where they are now.

Some guy named Bill Belichick was sub .500 in his first HC stint... with the Browns no less and ended up being the greatest NFL coach in history. I kid I kid, but look...

The Browns had one 10+ win season in the 40 years before he got hired and then Stefanski did it twice. Then the Watson fiasco happened (which he came out and said he was against after he was fired), with Browns ownership doing what it does. If Blank can get out of the way and he can find stability at QB, I think he has a good shot to succeed.

Stefanski's probably the 2nd best coach available in this cycle. And you'll be keeping Ulbrich who did a great job with that defense down the stretch. What happens at the QB spot is the biggest question.

We were never going to hire someone who is the next Shanny or McVay. Our job wasn't attractive enough. We don't have a first round pick and our only true studs right now are Bijan and Lindstrom. Everyone else is various tiers of fringe probowler and prospect. Penix has huge questions so you may be rebuilding the passing offense shortly. And we have no first round pick because of the JPJ gamble. The new coach and GM is saddled with the failures of our past.

I bet most GMs makethat first round trade again though.

The mistake was paying Kirk and or drafting the Penix.
Yup. JPJ trade worked out just fine.

I don’t even have an issue with drafting Penix or paying Kirk. Both were acceptable risks to take that didn’t work out (though I’d give Penix another year). Doing both within 10 days of each other was retarded.

An OL or WR there would be huge right now

This... Pearce looks like he's going to be a stud... getting Walker also was icing on the cake. The problem is the damn QB... it always seems like it's either/or for this damn team... either a good defense or good QB... not both
