REAL FOOTBALL Thread

Watch the footage (or the above jif) again. The WR clearly has his hands on the defender first, trying to push off and create separation.

It's a close call regardless. As C2C said, the bigger issue is picking up the flag after it was thrown.

No carp, it's not a close call. Tell us all the times when the defender makes contact with the receiver with his back to the ball when a penalty isn't called. (Well, I should say called and not had it over ruled by Dez Bryant)

I was with you until you started crying about holding not being called. There could probably be holding called on every play over the course of a game. It sucks to lose with some calls or non calls that don't go your way, believe me. We have all been there.

The Lions should have gotten the ball on the 29 yard line. Then an additional 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct on Dez. Giving us 1st and 10 on the Dallas 14.

Instead, we shank a punt (our fault) and Dallas gets it at nearly midfield.

At least Goodell is protecting the integrity of the shield.

I'm not used to playoffs.

Holding can be called all day. Agreed. But these were the final plays of the game. They call TWO defensive holdings on Detroit on 3rd down in the final drive. But on the 4th down play, they don't call the defensive hold on Dallas.

Dallas was holding us all game. No wonder their O-Line is so good. They hold every play. Whatever. It happens. But on the game winning touchdown pass (on third down by the way), there is a clear hold once again that isn't called.

There is a clear false start on Jason Witten on the 4th and 7 play. Uncalled. If it is - Dallas likely punts. But when Detroit gets the ball, they sure as hell didn't miss the false start on Calvin Johnson. Basically identical plays.

Just a joke. I've always assumed the league has interests in seeing teams win over others. But to be so blatant about it. The DPI no call was probably the worst officiating event I've ever seen - even worse than the infield fly.

I'm a little shocked about all of the NFL officials tweeting in favor of the Lions... Ol Rog ain't gonna be happy about that!

Watching the play on deadspin, they could have easily called holding in him before the pass interference.

I couldn't watch the game. Could only keep up with it on my phone using Twitter and apps. So I didn't see it live. Looking at the play, interference could have definitely been called. Honestly, probably should have been called. Had the flag not been thrown, that would be one thing. The fact it was, then picked up and the call not made does make the officials look bad. It's either interference or not. If you're not confident in the call, don't throw the flag to begin with. I'll take the win to be sure. Hate the controversy.

Yeah. U may still have won and wouldnt be any controversy.

Heck one of the dallas defensive backs said it was PI

Not sure how the call is debatable. If your head isn't turned around you can't make contact with the receiver prior to the ball arriving.

WR and CB hand fight like that every play. It looks to me like the receiver is extending his arm to try and create separation, not really pushing more like blocking. Then the cb swats at his arm, but it really made no difference because the ball was uncatchable by the receiver.

Well, that reverse view actually tells a better story.

I guess I could see where the ref was coming from.

Actually yes it was a close call. And at least a couple more unbiased people have said so in this thread alone. The WR initiated first contact while the ball was in the air, not the defender. And the contact by the defender was minimal (basically an arm swat).

But whatever, I'm not going to make a big deal about a close play. As was mentioned, the bigger issue was picking up the flag.

LMAO I love you guys.
Pettigrew was the first to initiate contact with the ball in the air. He pulled Hitchens' facemask AND grabbed his shoulders. Face guarding is not a penalty in the NFL. That's what the flag was thrown for, and that's why it was picked up. Stafford also threw the ball right at Hitchens' back. Like, he just pegged him in the back. To announce the penalty and then pick it up is bizarre for sure. But the call was right. That was no more defensive PI than it was offensive. Pettigrew had no chance at that ball with Hitchens' in front of him, it was thrown so poorly. Hitchens was held on the play as much, if not more, than he held. I can point to plenty of poor calls against the Cowboys.

The Cowboys totally outplayed them in the 2nd half. After the 1st half Romo was great.

And if you seriously think the league is fixed, well, first: you're an idiot.
Second, Suh should have been suspended. He wasn't. He made a big impact. If the league truly just wanted Dallas to win, they would have just upheld the deserved suspension.

THANK YOU. NO one has mentioned that Pettigrew grabbed his facemask first. It was clear as day, but unmentioned.

Then throw the flag on the defensive holding of Hitchens pulling his jersey.

Or throw the flag on the buffoon Dez arguing the call on the field.

Or throw just one flag on the dozens of holds the OL committed.

Or throw the flag on the Witten false start.

Or throw the flag on the defensive holding on the 4th down fumble play
