REAL FOOTBALL Thread

Hey CC, what are your thoughts on maybe trying to sign Jarius Byrd from Buffalo? I know he had a foot problem early on but didn't he still make the Pro-Bowl?? If possible I'd rather sign a good reliable safety and hopefully another OL or two and then just draft the hell out of DL/DE, maybe a LB and a decent RB if we can find one. Your thoughts??

I'm OK if we stick with using the Cover-2, I just just sick of the Cover-Nobody scheme we used for so much of the season.

EDIT: Oh and I'm a little skiddish about having a player on the back end of our defense named "ha-ha"...................................................You know, just saying.

I'm not sure Dallas is going to be a big free agent player with the salary cap concerns. I admit, I'm not sure of the numbers and the dollar figures, but from what I read, the salary cap concerns are deep. Jason Hatcher is looking to get PAID, so I'm not looking for him to be back. Miles Austin I don't think will be back either. He's been bypassed on the WR pecking order by Williams and Beasley. I look for at least an attempt to restructure DeMarcus Ware's contract. Not sure how that will go considering that Ware now says he won't take a pay-cut. Not sure how much all that will save against the cap, but you'd figure it help some.

Also, Haha's first name is actually Ha'Sean, but we Alabama fans called him "Ha Ha".:icon_biggrin:

Dallas is 10 million over the cap from what i just saw on OTC.

And would figure Austin is released to put Williams as the #2 oppo Dez with Beasley in the slot.

Kaep was basically teh #1 reason his teams won both of those playoff games. he was fantastic in both games and another QB probably doesn't win those games.

So a Brady/Brees/Manning/Rodgers wouldnt win those games?

Actually Dallas is like $30M over the cap right now, but the way they have the contracts worded/structured they can just turn Romo's, Carr's, and a couple of other guys (sorry I can't remember which ones) into signing bonuses and the break even. I expect Ware to restructure since he brought it up, and I expect us to let Hatcher walk and we'll save around $9-$10M since I don't see Spencer ever playing again, especially for us. I hope we can get some of that cap money back from Jeremiah Ratliff telling our trainers he isn't feeling like playing this season but then leaving and going to Chicago and playing right away. Here's a link that covers it better than I can.

I'll say this, all things considered, if JJ can figure out how to get us a REAL safety to go along with Church so we can trust the back end of the defense and then maybe figure out how to sign a couple of workable OL's I'd be fine with spending the whole draft on DL's, DE's, maybe a LB or two and just try to squeeze one RB into the mix because I don't trust Murray the China Doll's health (or our best defensive player Sean Lee's for that matter).

JJ may pull off a couple or even three decently sized moves in free agency, or he may not, after all when was the last time he did what he SHOULD have done??? Remember this is one of the few things JJ is really good at, other than 8-8 records and giving us all gray hair.

You and nocal's flirting has turned this thread about sweaty men wrapping each other up and wrestling each other to the ground, sometimes in a pile, penetrating defenses, and driving through the hole so ghey.

I need to teach you about women Zito. You see in order to make a woman instantly attracted to you, the first thing you do is completely shat on everything they like...and I mean everything. They find it irresistible. Once they realize all the stuff they like is stupid, you can then build them back up with the stuff that you like. They're like customizable people basically.

So the next time she comes on here trying to talk football and says something cute like "The Packers R the best! Aaron Rogers is so hot! #GOPACK #luvdiscountdoublecheck #spicedlatteBFF

Dallas has a safety, JJ Wilcox. Still learning the position though. I wouldn't draft one . Chances are he pans out.

That Texans job is a sweet gig for your first job. Supposedly that owner is great to work for and he won't interfere.

First a serious point, I've never ignored DVOA. I addressed that point at least a half dozen time.

Now onto the next, way to miss my joke entirely. And really all a man wants in life is a woman he can take home and listen to 2112 with.

I thought your joke was funny, that's why I thanked that post. You missed all of my jokes entirely from my made up stats to my flirting on the down low to try and piss everyone off.

According to PFF Trufant had the 4th best season of any first round pick.

Now if the Falcons can generate any kind of pass rush they'll have the makings of a great pass defense. I like Trufant a ton and I think Alford will be a very good 2 CB. Cutting Samuel (or restructuring severely) they should have (assuming the number I'm seeing on Tony is right) close to 20M to play with in the offseason. Some of that goes to picks, but that's not too much. With the hopeful cutting of Thomas Decoud, cuttng Samuel and Tony retiring that will free up just about 15M of the Falcons estimated 115. I would also cut Nicholas which will put the Falcons at about 99M. If the Cap is about 128 million adn you figure maybe what 5M for rookies? that gives them about 24 million or so to address some needs. Lets say about 8 of that goes to depth they then have the ability to sign 1 or 2 impact players.

This is what I hope for

Find some team willing to trade a 2 or 3 for Harry Douglas, I'm sure there's one out there.

Sign Jeremy Maclin to short term deal. Maclin is insanely talented but a major risk. If he is healthy the Falcons WR are sick. If not they're still fine because of Julio.

Sign an impact FA like Michael Johnson or Brandon Albert or Alex Mack.

Then sign a more secondary player at the other line, like Oher, de la Puente, Starks, Allen, or Solial.

So then you have 2 vets added to your line, you have greatness. Or of course if he happens to hit FA you could blow your wad on Jimmy Graham. Adding Graham to Julio/Roddy would be unfair.

Then in the draft the first 3 picks are along the lines. Lets say Barr, Richardson and Quarles.

Assume their signings via FA are Mack and Allen. Then the falcons OL in 2014 would be

LT - Baker
LG - Blalock
C - Mac
RG - Richardson
RT - Oh lord.

Richardson can move to T too if the Falcons feel more confident in Konz or someone at RG than Holmes or whatever butt they can march out there at RT.

Defensively the Falcons would have depth. They would have someone to rotate in with their current DTs. I like Babs and Peters. They're not amazing but they're solid. Unfortunately our depth is terrible there so we have no shot of rotating guys in effectively. The DE situation would be awesome though. Barr, Allen, Bierman and Osi. All rotating around as needed. Barr and Biermann also provide flexibility to go into coverage, run funky looks (messing with down lineman etc.) and probably you can even successfully slide Bierman inside for rushing downs. Allen and Osi are old. But they are really good in bursts. Allen is slowing down but he still is good about 75% of the time. With him taking less snaps he can maybe rush a little harder and be awesome in passing situations

Of course who knows what will happen. Falcons need ot get as many players on the line as possible. Baker coming back will be huge but they need at least 2 OL because you cannot have Hawley, Konz, and Holmes/Trueblood on the same line. Unfortunately though, most of the teams who have good OL hitting FA have the money to keep them (like Mack) Better OL and some pressure on the DL will help. I don't think the DL is quite as bad but depth is needed for sure.

It doesn't matter what the Falcons do. They need multiple seasons to get to where the 49ers and Seahawks are and even the Packers when healthy. You have to wait until at least Kaep/Wilson sign their next deals. If its 18+ per year (likely with Wilson) then you have a chance. If its under which I suspecdt Kaep will get signed for under then you are still screwed.

But, I guess its the NFL so you never know.

Graham isnt hitting FA, Saints will pretty much cut a lot of players to keep him.

He's not hitting the market.

And the TE tag is like 6-7 million which is a bargain.

Also, you think Kap signs for cheap?

I dont know if he'll sign for 10-12 or so, but if its 17-20+, that will hurt them eventually, same with Sea.

I dont know how much he'll ask for though.

All that matters is making the playoffs. Once you're there anything can happen. I'ts been a long time since the best team in the regular season won the superbowl.

Infact the last 10 years the Super Bowl Champions and their efficiency

Ravens - 8th
Giants - 12th
Packers - 4th
Saints - 6th
Steelers - 4th
Giants - 14th
Colts - 7th
Steelers - 4th
Pats - 2nd
Pats - 4th

Winning in the NFL is about getting ot the playoffs then it's all about who's the hottest team. Last year the Ravens were a perfect example, they had no business beating SF or NE but they did. Giants in 07 are the most extreme example. They had no business beating Dallas or GB. But they did and they certainly had no business beating one of the best teams of all time. But they did.

Graham may not be a TE tag, he may be a WR tag, they haven't decided that yet. Saints are projected 16M over the cap. They will clear a lot of that by Cutting Will Smith, But after him there aren't any big savings. They'll make lots of cuts but they may shock everyone and let Graham go. Especially if he wins his arb grievance and get reclassified as a WR, I don't know if the saints can clear almost 30 million in cap space.

I cant see them letting him go.

There are some cuttable players but they do have their problems with the cap this offseason.

Lance Moore, Bunkley, Harper are all possible cuts which would save around 17-18 on top of Smith which is 11-12.
