REAL FOOTBALL Thread

Sad to see Vaughn McClure passed away today. He was a fantastic beat reporter for the Falcons for ESPN. Only 48

Sad and shocked.

I was telling my wife when i first got out of college I had links on my desktop to the AJC Falcons blog, and Braves Blog and then he went to ESPN.

Shoulda took the money.

Yes, no one should feel sorry for him regarding the contract. Generally when players do stupid **** like turn down 30+ millions year I root for them to get nothing. Like that Harrington kid that turned down millions in the draft multiple times and ended up working at Target.

It has to be on purpose at this point right ?

The Falcons had a win probability as high as 98.7%, per ESPN's win probability model.

It was Atlanta's 3rd loss this season with a win probability of at least 98%, the most by a team in the last 20 seasons.

The rest of the NFL has 4 such losses combined this season.

Sounds like we have some ground to make up.

Falcons are just an epic ****up. And with the bad contracts we're not getting out from this any time soon. By my estimates, the Falcons can almost break even on Cap space cutting Ryan after June whatever.

To me I think a trade that could maybe work involves the Pats, find 2 guys from them that they don't want who we can just move along to save cap space. Like a kind of wild 3 way trade would be Ryan for Gilmore and move Gilmore to a team that needs a corner for a high draft pick. That lets us spread out Ryan's cap hit avoiding cap hell, then just start selling everyone. Just blow the ship up and rebuild. It won't take too long. Do it like Andy Reid has done his rebuilds. Draft a stud OL first then draft your next Franchise QB.

I dont think there is any way the cap for next year is going to be 175 million like projected. Too many teams would be in serious cap hell. It would be one thing if the teams knew this was coming and had a whole offseason to prepare. I think they will maybe just leave it at 200 million for 2-3 seasons instead of reducing it all in one offseason.

Falcons I think should give it one more go next year with Ryan, Julio, and a new coach then blow it up. They are so much better than they are playing and being coached. Imo they should hedge their bets in the short term with an eye towards blowing it up. Trade down as much as you can this year to acquire future draft picks. Dont make any significant free agent signings and get the cap into a more favorable position.

Falcons absolutely have to keep losing and get a high draft pick. It’s critical to getting a top HC/GM candidate and rebuilding the team quickly.

Glad to see Raheem and Co are on board.
