Reports are saying that Jared Allen is unlikely to sign with the Cowboys. I'm fine with that.

Even with Melton in the fold, Dallas will still have to address DT in the draft. The guy I really want is Aaron Donald. If not him, I'd be fine with Timmy Jernigan, but if Donald is off the board, I'd think about a trade, seeing all the needs the Cowboys have on defense. DE is going to be a need to address. Right now, the Cowboys within the first four rounds need to have a DT, DE, and safety selected. If they don't, I'll be very disappointed, which considering, is not an unfamiliar feeling for me with the Cowboys.

Dallas drafted a very talented player at S in JJ Wilcox. He should be fine.

They still need to draft a safety.
I could see Jerry trying to do something drastic during the draft.
I really want Donald as well. I have a feeling Jerry will draft a WR in the 2nd. I actually have a general feeling he will do something stupid.
S, DT, DE, AND LB in the first 5 rounds.
They have so many holes on defense. They need to gather a solid rotation on DL. I think Melton and Selvie is a good start to a rotation, but they need more.
Lee absolutely needs to stay healthy or they're completely screwed. Going to have to be fine with Carter at LB. But they need more guys.
They're in bad shape on D. They don't have enough draft picks or money to address all of the holes. They need: 2 DL, 2 LB, and a S. You're not going to get 5 quality guys in the draft.

You think Allen is washed?

10. Jared Allen (MIN)

Allen is similar to Phillips in that he had a 10-sack season, but it wouldn’t be surprising if his best days are behind him. His three best games in terms of pass rushing came in the first four weeks of the season, and then he had some decent games beating up on some below-average left tackles. At his age and below-average play, it’s unlikely he averages 90.8% of snaps again. 20% of his pressures turned into sacks, so that should regress to the mean and also lower his sack number. While he was a mid DL2 last year, a likely decrease in playing time and production should drop him to at least the DL3 range if not lower.

I think he could still be dangerous as a situational pass rusher which is what Seattle would ask of him.

Allen isn't one of the best defenders in the NFL anymore. But as a situational rusher say he may still be great in that role. Guy has a better motor than most players in the NFL, he's old but he's still good. He's not again one of the best defenders in the NFL. He still gets to the QB (4th in th NFL in QB hits) he gets his hands up (tied 4th in PD) and he's tied for 8th in tackles for losses.

That's like arguing a guy that has more hits is a better hitter than someone with a higher batting average.

He got results, the guys he's compared against are starters in the NFL. I do think his sack numbers were inflated a bit, but the guy isn't a bum. He's a lot like John Abraham. Abe was once an elite DE, then he got old and couldn't be as consistent, that's where Allen is at now. Abe is still solid in the NFL at 35. I think Allen has some stuff in the tank. He's no longer one of the best defenders in the NFL like he was a few years ago (that's JJ Watt and JJ Watt alone right now, guy is an absolute stud)

Nobody is saying he is.going to dominate. But as a situational pass Fisher on a loaded defense he will get to the QB.

Man, that really sucks. I lost my mother to cancer when I was 8 years old. Its just a horrible illness.
