Stroud looks to me the best of the rookie QB class.

That was the probability. Stroud had the best overall combination of tools. Richardson and Levis had bigger arms but had rough mechanics and mental attributes. The only knock against Stroud was OSU and their garbage history developing NFL QBs.

When the QB is wrong the situation is hopeless. Bears got to be hoping to lose every game out at this point. Only way out.

And it would have cost a fortune… it’s not like they could have magically made that happen.

Stroud may not pan out.

There’s numerous reasons why he was a really risky pick.

I think the Falcons do start looking here soon at options. Time to take one until you find one

Lions dominated. Would have been a massacre if we didn't have to go to tackle #5 on the depth chart. Goff was dealing until the OL starting falling like dominoes

Yeah,

Looking at the board there's lots of good QBs in the draft. I think if we are meh and wind up around 10 there's a chance Bo Nix could be there.

But if Stroud is the guy, he's worth the cost 3 times over. This Falcons front office is eventually going to have to go all in on someone at QB. Making timid moves and putting backup quality QBs will only guarantee mediocrity. They can't be mediocre and complain being great would cost too much.

Timid is a great way to describe the front office's first round picks.

Pitts? He was seen as the surest thing in the draft. Forget that he doesn't fit Smith's offense.

London? Incredibly polished with a super high floor. Of course his lack of speed limits his ceiling, but again, surest thing.

Robinson? Maybe the surest thing in the last decade. Not a huge need but yet again, low risk.

Timid and terrible.

Steelers are 2-1 now - Dark horse SB candidates. It’s not their fault they played best team in league first week of season.

How many times in NFL history has it panned out for people going all in and trading up?

29 times a team traded up for a QB (not counting last draft as we have no info on it)

Jordan Love
Sam Darnold
Josh Allen
Josh Rosen
Lamar Jackson
Mitch Trubisky
Mahomes
Deshaun
Goff
Wentz
Paxton Lynch
Manziel
Bridgewater
RG3
Gabbert
Tebow
Sanchez
Freeman
Flacco
Brady Quinn
Cutler
Campbell
Losman
Kyle Boller
Mike Vick
Ryan Leaf
George
FUller
BArtkowski

Lop off the last 3 as they were pre-cap era and the draft held less value then.

Most of those trades were moving up a pick or 2 or were to move back into the first round from the second etc Of ones with significant cost aka future 1st round pick you have

Mahomes (27 overall andfuture 1 to move up to 10)
Deshaun (25 overall and future 1 to move up to 12)
Goff (15 overall and future 1 to move up to 1, as well as 3 second round picks and 2 third round picks)
Wentz (8 overall and future 1 to move up to 2)
RG3 (6 overall and 2 future 1s to move up to 2)
JP Losman (42 overall and future first round pick to move up to 22)
Boller (41 overall and future first round pick to move up to 19)

On that list your only true success is Mahomes. Deshaun and Goff were good gambles but weren't great value for the team that drafted them. Wentz's tteam won the Super Bowl without him playing the playoffs.

I would have been mad if we had a Wentz or RG3 situation. We don't have a good enough GM to cover 2 lost drafts like the Eagles, and Washington has been a hotmess for ages.

Pushing the chips in for your guy isn't a lock at success. only one it's really paid off for was Mahomes and he was taken 10th overall.

Falcons were in an interesting position. No one knew what was going on at the top of the draft. Stroud could have fell to them if there wasn't a QB rush.

Steelers are 2-1 now - Dark horse SB candidates. It’s not their fault they played best team in league first week of season.

They beat the Raiders and the Browns. 2 teams with garbage QBs. The Steelers will not be going anywhere with Kenny Pickett at QB.

Ok - Its week 3. Niners/Browns might be two best defenses in the league.

I'll remember who mocked me when I said it.

Just another feather in the cap Carp....

It's worked quite a bit in recent years. Probably because the league is way more QB friendly than it was 20+ years ago and because teams have mostly gotten better at evaluating QBs. And you can blame Washington for what happened to RG3. Dude could have been special if they weren't such idiots.

Go right ahead. Browns do have a great defense. But their offense is **** and Watson sucks. I'm guessing you didn't bother to watch the Browns/Steelers game. If you did, you would have watched an anemic Steelers offense that had exactly 1 offensive TD and struggled to move the ball all day. They won that game because Watson did Watson things and handed Pitt 2 TDs on a pick 6 on the 1st play of the game and then on a fumble return for a TD late in the game.

The Steelers are not a "dark horse SB candidate" anymore than the Jets, Falcons, Saints, Titans, or Giants are. When you have a bad QB, you simply aren't going very far, regardless if you have a good defense or not.
