Reports: Marcell Ozuna Arrested For Domestic Battery

Apparently you've never raised kids. As someone currently raising a toddler in the terrible twos, restraining another human is much easier said than done.

It is interesting. I work with a lot of school officials and staff and equipment are usually injured/damaged more by the early elementary grade students than by the older students. Part of it is the older students can be reasoned with even when they are starting to go off and they have also been taught various coping skills. When the little kids go off, it's all id. I had a superintendent tell me about a six-year-old who absolutely destroyed a computer--smashed it to bits--because the staff couldn't get the little whirling dervish under control.

Never have understood why people got so invested in the lives of strangers.

I'll leave it to the justice system and mlb to make their decisions. I'll hope he hits bombs if he returns.

You could wrestle a water Buffalo and still not be able to handle a 2 year old. The eyes will melt your soul and all powers will be nullified.

This is 100% accurate. My son is 3, and it is much worse than 2. Plus, grandpa taught him how to say “no.” Luckily he is super well behaved for the most part, but when he digs in he really digs in.

My guy is 4 months so not there yet. I'm relatively fit so I think I'll be fine.

You can be the Rock for all it matters. A two year old who doesn't want her hair brushed or to get her diaper changed isn't so easily tamed.

It's not apples-to-apples, but the Minnesota Vikings released second-year (and former first-round pick) CB Jeff Gladney today after he was indicted for felony domestic assault. NFL contracts are not guaranteed the same way MLB contracts are so there is that angle, but I will be curious to see what the Braves do after MLB makes its decision. Obviously, there's a difference between a felony and misdemeanor and that weighs heavily here.

If the Braves want to try and trade him that's fine, but I'm going to be pissed if they screw up the payroll to get rid of him.

Just being honest.

Hate to say it - and certainly doesn't make me any better than anyone else for any reason - but I won't. (The rant isn't directed at you by any stretch - simply laying out one of our society's biggest problems in general.)

One of the things that lots of people who are being honest love to throw others under the bus for is "moral" differences. I believe 100% that others are fans and may choose to look at it a different way, and that's fine - I'd never group them together with scum just because they choose to look at situations like this from a fan standpoint rather than a personal one. That said, it's just as offensive to hear people whine about people "getting on their high horse" or talking down to someone. Everyone is more than welcome to their opinion, and I'll forever stand up to defend their right to voice it. Just remember that works both ways - people who view things in a different light than you do are just as entitled to say so.

There was a huge problem with Ozuna's actions - regardless of what level the District Attorney feels he can make charges stick. Ozuna's human just like the rest of us - it doesn't bother me to be called an old, "get off my lawn" *sshole when I say I'm more than happy to say I hope the Braves would choose to distance themselves from ANYONE in his situation regardless of what that does to their chances to win. I've got 3 college age nieces, and the thought of them meeting anyone who doesn't have enough self control to keep a situation from escalating to the level his did scares me to death. Some things are simply more important, and someone needs to point out just how wrong all this was since there are lots of people out there who will blindly give him a pass. The message that sends is disgraceful IMO.

You make valid points but you weren’t there. you don’t know what happened. you haven’t seen the bodycam footage. Making him guilty before the process runs itsself out is disgraceful as well.

I don’t think any Braves fan wants Ozuna on the team if he’s found guilty or if theres footage of him doing something (I.e Kareem Hunt, Ray rice)

btw, you mentioned “ I hope the Braves would choose to distance themselves from ANYONE in his situation regardless of what that does to their chances to win.”

Do you feel that same way about Bobby Cox? Should the Braves distance themselves from him?

I did - even at the time it happened. But that's me, and that opinion doesn't/didn't fit for everyone and I had no problem with those who didn't share it.

I didn't need to "be there" for either incident - the fact that they're still proceeding with the prosecution (albeit on a lower level) signals to me that he did enough that I want distance from him at any cost. It's that black-and-white for me. Others are - and should be - free to make their own judgements and set their own code of ethics.

So we are now way past the DL time. Still don't understand why action hasn't been taken by the Braves or MLB. If he wasn't on the DL they would have been forced to already. Such a weird situation.

Can a player decide to stay on IL if he chooses to? In this case, it makes sense for ozuna to stay on the IL as long as possible to keep getting paid

He hasn't started to rehab on any level, and there's no requirement for him to be activated before he does (as far as I know). There's only a time requirement for activating players from the 60-Day IL.

He's costing the flexibility of an additional roster spot - apparently he can remain on the IL as long as the Braves don't need that spot and are willing to let him keep it. It appears that they will remain in limbo. The *hitty thing about it is that the Commissioner's Office hasn't placed him on the Restricted List so they can use that roster spot like they have Bauer during the investigation into his mess (regardless of whether they have to pay him or not).

It seems like it would be confusing in other places than Atlanta - at least so much so that either the league or the Braves would at least explain what's going on.

If the Braves want to throw away 15m of their payroll that's certainly a defensible and understandable position as a moral stance but personally I'd rather they didn't do that based on what apparently is not a shock the conscience type incident.

People screw up and lots of public figures are not nice people but I can celebrate the art or sport from the rest of the guy.

Reporting is so haphazard and has he been able to use the Braves' training staff to assess his progress in recovery or has that been disallowed?

My best guess is that MLB told the Braves (and Ozuna) to leave him on the IL for the rest of the year to give the legal system time to figure out its resolution. Benefits to the Braves are that insurance will cover the bulk of his salary for this year, and that if he's found guilty MLB will likely void his contract. Benefit to Ozuna is that he keeps getting paid instead of being placed on suspension or a restricted list pending his trial date.
