Reports: Two Dallas Police Officers Shot During Protests

I posted here a few years ago about a time I was pulled over coming home from the gym after midnighy and had 2 officers point their guns at me because they tagged my plate wrong. I've been pulled over several times because I drive an early 2000s grand am which a lot of officers associate with hood thugs.

They called 8 cops in all handcuffed me put me in the back seat and found nothihg. When I complained to HQ they changed and edited their stories and the reports because someone majorly ****ed up.

I can't imagine what would've happened if I was a short tempered black person I may have died that night because both officers had guns pointed and spotlight on me.

All because the idiot tagged the wrong plate in another state. Just a horrible experience. They accused me of stealing the car from my dad, they said my dad reported the car stolen earlier etc. I live 2 minutes from the gym. My dad was home knows I go to gym late. Just utter bs. And one of their cops pulled me over a month later who was there when that f up happened and gave me a bs ticket after I had reported my story to HQ. Said I didn't come to a complete stop at a 4 way when I always always am analysis avout complete stops and turn signals. He drove a whole mile to catch up and pull me over 20 seconds from my house.

Omg. Are you ok?!!!

But what discourages me are the stories I've already reas about body cams videos disappearing or the camera not "turning on" or "turned off unexplainably" at that moment.

The South Carolina trooper that pulled the guy over at the gas station for not using a turn signal. Guy gets out of his car with his hands up and cop says license and registration. Guy goes for his wallet and gets shot at multiple times.

If there was no dash cam video to clearly show the officer got trigger happy it's this black guy's word vs police officer and honestly I have no faith justice would have been served.

I have friends that are good cops and I hate that they get dragged in this.

I agree with all of this. The system needs reform because too often, police are able to sweep things under the rug because they are in power. Again, though, I don't think the roots of this issue have to do with race. It may make it easier for a racist cop to get away with something, but the issue can be fixed structurally and with a change in laws, police training, etc.

Claims from politicians, athletes, celebrities, etc., however, that cops are shooting black people because they're black does no good and only exacerbates the problem.

Your posts on this board only deal with race. Every single one of them. So it's a coincidence that your first post in over a year has to do with another race issue?

Yes it is a coincidence. I posted because i wanted yall to hear i black voice on all of this. I normally lurk regarding baseball here. I use to do that on scout as well. I like to read and agree with many posters that post here on the baseball side. Im just not a big poster. So its fine if you want to call me a troll etc. Again i posted because im passionate about black lives!!!

And situations like this are why cops sometimes have quick triggers. Thier lives are In danger.
They don't know who has a gun and who doesn't.

Agreed. It is a dangerous cycle, and we need to figure out a way to reduce the anger in general.

I don't know what would have changed had you been a short-tempered black person. You were treated wrongly, and this incident highlights the issue of police militarization.

My point is that saying things like, 'I may have died that night' if you had been black, does not help. We don't know if that's the case, and it only inflames racial tension.

I know it's the case. Ive lived and grown up in a black neighborhood where most of my friends and acquaintances are dead locked up or in bad environments. Had one white neighbor. She passed years ago. I went to school for years where I was the only non black kid in my class of 25-31 kids. I work with inner city black kids and much more. I see it happen.

I know I may have died if I were black that night because I got pulled over for driving a "black car" even though my car is silver. They had guns out ready to shoot. They were in attack position in between their door and car with spotlights in my face so I couldn't even see them. You don't think if I were a black person asking repeatively why yall pulled me over then might have looked like they were reaching that nobody would have been shot?

If you're really passionate about black lives you never comment on black and black killings. You're a race baiter

We've all been pulled over by cops

Did you go to court and contest the ticket? If you didn't why not?

I mean when you consider that drugs were planted by the CIA in ghettos and the war on drugs and everything else you can't convince me that race doesn't have the slightest factor.

I truly want to believe race isn't an issue here when it comes to criminal justice but I've seen too much of it. Usually my level headed black friends never comment on things like Mike Brown or Trayvon but the last 2 days even they are getting angry. It's just not getting better.

And everytime something like this happens there's always someone that brings up Chicago or black on black crime which has zero to do with what's going on.

I don't know if anyone would have been shot. I certainly hope not but fear that perhaps someone would have been. It is unfortunately a real possibility these days.

My point is that the claim that had you been black, you definitely would have been shot solves nothing. It inflames tension and is built on assumption. Even if it is true that you would have been shot had you been black, what is the solution? We need police, and we need them to be fair and reasonable to everyone. Telling the police to stop being racist doesn't do a thing. We need things in place that will prosecute and convict those cops who step out of line. That is an issue with police training and police power. It needs to be addressed, but it won't be done by screaming that cops are racist.

I honestly believe that a large majority of cops treat the situation according to a person's actions, not skin color. I have to believe that. But even if it's not true, we have to discuss how to stop it, not just continue to claim that it's a fact.

Oh there goes that white privilege logic. Yall throw that line out whenever a situation like this occurs. Wrong buddy!!! I think the people who kill each other in nyc newark Chicago Miami in terms of black on black crime should face the death penalty. Ive spoken about this before. Ive worked in the inner city with children whose parents are horrible people.

So stop the line "what about black on black violence". My mom is a retired Newark cop who put her life on the line. What have YOU done positive about black on black violence? Oh i forgot you dont enter into those scary urban areas and uf you do....you lock your car doors.

This is the problem. Stop talkinng at blacks and just freaking listen to our pain.

He pulled me over for not going to a complete stop. He said he was "doing me a favor" by knocking off the complete stop violation and just ticketing me for a window tint violation. Again that pos knew my car from the incident. He literally went from camped and sped up for a minure to track me down to pull me over. And I had a friend who worked upstairs after I reported it tell me that the entire police report was edited and modified several times to change the story because someone fd up. The officer in charge of that mess that night called.me to tell me I lied. He said my car wasnt registered at the dmv and that's why they pulled me over when they told me the first time it was because I got tagged on the wrong plate of a stolen car in Michigan. They adjusted the report so it didn't say 8 cops were there at the scene to 3 cops on routine traffic stop.

Luckily most of the cops in this beat know my car and dnot harass me like they used to before. Probably because I'd file a lawsuit this time.

**** I basically live in the ghetto. And no you don't talk about black on black crime which is the real problem within the black community. you just post anti-cop rhetoric when it fits your purpose. Your post history in this forum doesn't lie. It's all there.

The fact you're sort of endorsing this and can't see what the problem actually is, is why I have no hope anything will change.

I respect the same thing you do. Facts. Let's discuss facts and I bet we'll find an agreement on the change you are seeking.

Amazing that I was pulled over for not going to a complete stop. Then I get ticketed for Window tint violation. He didn't have the balls to give me a ticket for the complete stop because he knows it was bull to begin with. Instead he said "I'm helping you out aND doing you a favor by only giving you a citation for your window tint". How anybody can justify that I don't know.

Was your window tint illegal at the time of the ticket?

I don't think you're talking to the tight person because I seldom post anything in depth on cop related stuff like this. I've been less and less and less involved in this politics forum mainly posting about presidential primaries. The last time I posted about something like this was the South Carolina Trooper incident which was clear as crystal.

No I'm talking to njc.

I was already ticketed with it before. But you seem to be missing the point. It's not any secret anymore that police have legislated small things they can pull you over for to see if you are doing anyrhing worse. I see so many people with tag lights out. Some cars don't even have them.

They only enforce these stupid things when they want to pull someone over because it gives them an entry.

I mean I have cop friends that tell me straight up they can pull you over for a tail light being out so they can see if you have drugs in the car. It's just an entirely messed up system.
