Requirements for a successful offseason?

Doumit is a better fit than Reed.

In what ways? Sure he has more power, but Reed constantly put together tough at bats. Good base runner and solid defense in multiple outfield spots. Doumit isn't versatile at all.

Doumit is a switch hitter. Always nice to have one of those on the bench.

Doumit can play catcher. Not well. But well enough to allow the use of Gattis as a pinch hitter in games he is not starting.

Doumit gives us some power off the bench.

Reed is a good pinch hitter. No doubt about that. .759 career OPS as a pinch hitter. But Doumit is almost as good with a .737 career OPS as a pinch hitter. And we can use him against both lefties and righties.

Reed is the better defender. But we'll be carrying someone like Schafer, Constanza or Cunningham, who can fill in defensively in the outfield.

It was a good off-season. The team didn't panic and overspend/blow the farm for an 'ace'. We locked up one of our young talents for all of his prime. Things a mid market team has to do.

It will be interesting to see just how much Doumit actually even catches this season.
