Teams that have talked to #Braves say their deals in last 24 hours could be a template for their approach to more trades in July. . . .

#Braves have let clubs know they're open to dealing from pitching prospect depth in a trade for a bat. They've asked about young catchers

Pitching prospects are currency. Look at how many teams are starved for pitching that are competing for a world series this year.

So, is the idea that we're willing to go way, way over our allotment to sign Maitan next year and take the resulting penalties?

Yes. And since we're going way over anyway, the plan is to blow it out of the water and get as many of the other top 10 guys as we can. Penalty is the same, and there may be an international draft in 2017 or 2018, which would take away our penalty.

That would work out amusingly well. Thanks.

I'm of the mind that losing Fulencheck doesn't bother me one bit and I was actually high on his upside. Hart reshaped the system to be able to do the things we're doing now. We're actually players again internationally and the arms he's amassed in one year to restock this system lessens the blow. When/if/should Allard ever sign, the last thing I'm worried about is trading off an oft injured lottery ticket. Although that sounds contradictory considering we've gotten a few of those!

I guess the 23 year old Panamanian slashing .327/.352/.442 in AAA is old-hat at this point.

If you compare the Braves trades for slot money to others, we are giving up more than most seem to be. MLBTR noted: "Fulenchek is a far more notable acquisition than most players that are swapped for international pool money, though it should be noted that he was selected by the Braves’ previous front office, which has since undergone some changes."

My take is having such depth shouldn't make us sell low on high upside prospects.

Backup. Nothing more, nothing less.

Still don't like this move. Garrett has the chance to be something pretty special, reminds me a lot of a young Kevin Brown. We shouldn't just be giving away high reward prospects despite having more higher upside, closer to MLB ready prospects that have jumped him on the list.

Anything is possible. He's got a power arm for sure, but we need bats. Impact bats and if our best way to get them is this route I have no problem with it. The same high upside could be applied to a lot of our acquisitions but to be able to deal from a position of strength when other teams knew we were trying to get to slot was inevitable. We have higher upside arms.

I think the fact we are willing to deal someone like Fulenchek to balance our pool money is an excellent sign we are going all out next year in the international pool. So I'm relatively fine with the move with that in mind even though it's an overpay for what we got (though to be honest I wasn't a huge fan of Fulenchek when we drafted him anyway, and he's failed to impress so far).

Based on signings yesterday and last year it looks like the Dodgers, Red Sox, Yankees, Dbacks, Angels, Rays, Cubs, Giants, Blue Jays, Royals and I think the Phillies will all be unable to sign any top prospects in next years July 2 international pool. That puts us in an extremely good spot if we are going to go all out for these prospects, with most all the big spenders unable to do anything.

It is a deep cost, but given all the pitching they've acquired, they gotta trade some of them for assets.

Whether it's a bat, or international money.

Well you actually don't have to trade them for international money. That's really strange logic.

No they dont.

But besides the point, and if it gets them to land that prospect in 2016, then by all means.

You can still sign all of those prospects in 2016 without making this trade. This is very clearly the Braves thinking Pache is worth trading Martin, Fulencheck and Paroubeck. That's quite the pill to swallow.

Now that we've acquired some young hitters we need to start trading them to rebuild our pitching depth.

Not sure why. Martin is at best a 4th/5th starter type and is the kinda guy who gets thrown into trades as a filler prospect, Fulenchek has been fairly terrible in the minors so far (though he does clearly have talent), and Paroubeck is a 20 year old who hasn't played above rookie ball and was basically a throw in during our Kimbrel trade. If they think Pache could be a legit CF or corner OF in the future it's worth a shot. It's basically Fulenchek versus Pache in my mind really, and I'd take that trade myself.

I dont think Martin really had any value since any team could have had him several times over. The other kids are just like Pache. Extreme lottery tickets.

Agreed 100%. I just trust the scouting arm of this organization until proven otherwise.

Sure. There's a good chance neither Paroubeck or Fulencheck amount to anything, but they were both some of our higher quality lower level prospects. We just must really like Pache to trade them for him, essentially.
