Our awesome long time minor league contributor, rico43 passed away. Found out as I am a member of a facebook group and one of the other members announced it.

David Jenkins passed away from complications of diabetes.

Some sad news to report as we have learned that one of our colleagues in the local sports media, David Jenkins, has passed away. David wrote for the Chattanooga papers for many, many years and was heavily involved in local radio for WDEF in Chattanooga and WAAK in Ringgold. In addition, he was an official scorer for the Chattanooga Lookouts and was a literal encyclopedia about Lookouts baseball and about baseball in Chattanooga. He also authored a book about local baseball. He will certainly be missed.

He's had off and on health issues the past few years and taken some leave of absences.

Rest in peace my friend.

Ironically enough, this was his final post in a minor league thread beginning of this month.

That's all folks.

damn, that really sucks ass. I know he worked hard on those minor league threads, but more so, we know he was a long time Braves fan so it really adds a somber mood to what we are all experiencing. I hope it was a peaceful and painless passing. He will be sorely missed around these parts...

Really really sucks.

I looked forward to the milb box scores as much as anything here. I’ll really miss him offering up insight. How old was he ?

Damn. Another long time member that will be missed.

Indeed. Communities like this are few and far between in the age of Reddit and social media.

Best wishes to Rico’s family. If there is a go fund
Me for funeral expenses, please share the link.

My dad was a massive UVA basketball fan... and died right before the made their historic championship run. Felt like fate at the time

Hopefully the Braves pull one out for Rico

Well here’s to Rico and hoping he has front row seats to this WS and helping the Braves take the title this year. He will be sorely missed. Rest In Peace my friend

Bittersweet, but I'm glad he made that post on here a month or two ago about not feeling appreciated for the work he's put in. It gave the majority of this board the opportunity to thank him and share praise.

R.I.P. Rico

Same. Those threads were often the only reason I checked in, and after trying to fill in for him for a while I can confirm that he put a ton of work into them. He'll be missed.

Another in the long line of reasons a Braves' title this season would mean that much more.

The passing of Knucksie, The King, Don Sutton, Biff Pocoroba, Claudell Washington, Bob Watson, the long list of true legends (Seaver, Gibson, Morgan, Brock, Don Larsen, Whitey Ford, Al Kaline, Jimmy Wynn), and now Braves superfans we all felt like were good friends with even though we couldn't pick each other out of a police lineup - all since the announcement that spring training was being suspended last year - makes it feel like someone decided to turn COVID loose on baseball fans and bundled a special nasty strain to spread around Braves Country. Losing my Dad on top of that makes it feel like I've done something to *iss off someone in charge in particular and this is what I get.

RIP Rico - pretty sure you'll soon realize that a lot more people are going to miss you than you ever imagined.
