RIP Prince...

I can't even.

Prince and the Sovereign so proximally deceasing is pretty rough; they both occupied such unique, strangely adjacent, and wholly necessary spaces in the collective imagination re celebrity and rock-star and popular artist. To wit: I just saw The Man Who Fell to Earth, and—while it didn't strike me at the time—Prince is probably one of the only other souls I could imagine occupying such a blithely bizarre role.

So true. I've seen that movie many times and you nailed it, Prince would be money in the spot David Bowie would be.

The book was awesome.

Give me a break. Sure it's sad that the man passed away. Veterans are committing suicide at an alarming rate, but nobody seems to really care. A movie star or singer passes away and everyone is saddened. Priorities in this country have never been so twisted.

I think it's more about celebrating his life.

It's not even "twisted" as you're describing.

Random joe in NYC doesn't have an emotional connection to the small-town veteran kid in Iowa he never met who committed suicide.

When a celebrity/musician like Prince dies, people are not just celebrating his life, but they're reminiscing the times his music was a part of their memories and lives.

You may have a song that reminds you of a time you hung out with a deceased love one, or it might have been their favorite song so it reminds you of them. When MJ died it wasn't just about his music, it was about the memories people have of his music and how it was a part of their lives.

Someone may have had a Prince song be remembered when they went on their first date or something like that.

I think your anger here is a bit misplaced. Not to say your concerns aren't valid, but I think you're directing your frustrations in the wrong direction.

Music is a part of westernized culture and has been for many years. His music happened to have an impact on much more lives than your average celebrity.

What the guy who brings the truth?

Super sad that Prince died, but no reason to lie about things other people said. I knew it was fake because I've heard that quote attributed to many different artists.

There are no true greatest to me.

Those three are clearly the best but ranking them would be an injustice to all of them.'

THEY WERE THE MASTERS

Prince was different he mastered that and 25 other instruments, that is totally INSANE.
