RIP to John Prine...

Over the years I have made more friends , lasting friends, over John Prine songs , beer and an old guitar.
What a treat he shared them with us.

In a lot of ways this was a blessing. He has been very sick for a very long time
" hot dog bun --- my sister's a nun"

I sometimes think I learned as much about life from John Prine songs as any other source. Probably it was just confirming my own opinions than actual new learning, but his way of looking at the world expressed through his songs were like a road map for me as I became an adult. I even met him in '78 or '79, bumped into him twice before a show in Jackson, MS. The second time he remembered me and treated me like an old friend by giving me the first swig on his freshly poured vodka and orange juice. I'm so glad that he turned out to be as genuine and decent a human being as his songs implied.

In a funny aside, the guys I went to the concert with, 2 bickering brothers who argued the whole time, refused to believe my story.
