In my eyes he was a lousy American

and a hard time coming up with anything he left better than he found it
we are all the worse for his public life

In plain English, he was a dick
I have no interest in his family. Their complicity was enabling his political and social behavior, I don't feel sorry for their loss.

I've never said I thought Ailes was "evil", rabid perhaps. I think he was just another clever bully who used power and position to take advantage of others, both on a personal and a grander level.

Don't you just hate it when you if you used the words you really want to use you'd catch yourself in something of a dilemma?

This is not another obituary for Roger Ailes, who died last week a year after being ousted at Fox News. It is, I hope, instead an obituary for the culture he purveyed — a culture that affected me profoundly and personally.
