John Hart was calling the shots by that time. Even with that all international scouting was performed by JJohnny Almaraz who left to become a bigger guy with the Phillies.

Wren was a disaster and the organization is finally healthy again because his ass got kicked to the curb.

I don't believe I ever said that.

I do remember that being hinted on by some other posters though.

Even if Hart did do that I don't think that would be a positive in his corner as Davidson hasn't been anything to get excited about.

it was definitely you...i dont forget something so memorably stupid and distinctly remember engaging you on it...with the benefit of hindsight i expect you would now claim davidson was one of wren's follies

Again, I do not believe I ever said that but as Hart was the chief decision maker at the time then I would have no issue putting that under his resume.

It's truly OK to acknowledge that Wren did some good, and that it also was the right decision to move on. His record as GM was fantastic here

I miss these debates with you btw my friend.

Wren did well in the early years when he benefited from an absurd amount of young talent that he could create a team from. Once he took over the reigns of the minor leagues it was depleted and left us in a horrid position. Thankfully, the new regime was able to turn 1 year assets (of awesome players) into tremendous long term pieces.

Totally agree. There was a lot wrong with Wren and the success wasn't sustainable....but you can't ignore that overall we did well with him

During his time we developed a large number of very good young starting pitchers that unfortunately did not reach their potential due to injuries. Jurrjens, Hanson, Beachy, Medlen, Minor. It was a star-crossed group. The verdict on his period as GM would be a lot different if a couple of those guys had stayed healthy and productive through the end of their arb years.

At the same time I recognize that there seemed to have been a series of personality clashes that led to the departure of Roy Clark and others. No GM is so talented that he can afford to drive away good people like that. So I'm willing to accept that he had some issues that justified his firing. It is worth recalling though that the immediate cause of his firing was his desire to get rid of Fredi. He hired Fredi in the first place, so some blame for that is his as well. But then the folks who hired Wren are also blameworthy by the same chain of reasoning.

As for the Acuna signing, I believe that was done in June 2014, at which point I believe the Bravos were in first place and coming off a first place 96-win finish in 2013. It stretches credulity to claim that John Hart was already calling the shots at that point.

Wren did a lot of good and made some good trades. He also made some terrible FA signings, and by the end the MLB team was seriously flawed and had fallen off, and the farm system was completely depleted.

So yes, I agree that Wren did a lot of good but had to go when he did. I think that should pretty much be the consensus at this point.

Yup. Rendering it unnecessary to indulge in claims that Acuna was a Hart era signing. We did trade for some slot money after Hart took over that year and used it to sign guys like Isranel Wilson, Leudys Baez and Randy Ventura.
 
Getting back to talking about Acuna I can tell you he makes some magnificent adjustments during the game each at bat. Its really phenomenal to see really quick hands to the ball I saw him get fooled on a curve ball once and he lounged and he was able to adjust and still hit a single to right field. He is going to be a good player as he has all the athleticism you could want.

Not that I think Wren was terrible or anything, but I would hardly use fantastic to describe his tenure. We made the playoffs 3 times and he decimated a once strong farm system.
