Roster Options with Riley to IL

With Charlei starting at SS every game, that leaves only Camargo to fill in at all of the IF positions. Would it not be wise to call up an IFer?Going with a 4 man bench is stupid IMHO especially when playing AL rules. Then you have only a 3 man bench to cover for injury and or situational PH needs. Snits ran out of position players in one of the Twins games didn't he? If Flowers is in game, the bench is LHH McCann, LHH Joyce, and switch hitting(if you can call it that) Camargo. Duvall has reverted back to 2018 hitter so he's not really a good option to start every day IMO. The bench is a mess and made more so by Snits inability to use it wisely.

I disagree.

Yes, he is striking out a lot and not walking much, but he is also hitting with authority. This is exactly the type of hitter he was pre-2018. High Ks, low average, low BBs, big power. He's a flawed player and whether his pre-2018 self is an everyday player or not is certainly up for debate (he was a 2ish WAR player without drastic splits). But he's shown so far that he is quite certainly better than the 2018 version.

4 for last 26 with 1 HR and 3 RBIs is not "hitting with authority iIMO.

His first 26 at bats he hit .480 with 5 homers. Should I use that as evidence that he is morphed into Ted Williams reincarnated?

26 at bats is a useless sample size, whether it was his 1st 26 at bats or his last. Manny Machado is 7 for his last 32 with 1 homer and 3 RBI's by the way. So he must clearly be a bench player now.

This pretty much scuttles any chance he can be factored into the 2020 opening day plans.

Yeah, this stinks. Gabe also said he was walking around without any issues somehow, but he's assuredly done for the season and maybe part of next if he has to have surgery

Not so sure about that. Opening Day is 8 months away. Guys seem to recover sooner from knee injuries than 10-15 years ago.

A guy who was striking out 40% of the time before a season ending knee injury probably isn't going to make enough improvements by opening day to be a contributor.

A partially torn LCL seems like something you wouldn’t have surgery on. A normal person can walk around on anything but a torn ACL. I think a rehab program will probably be the prescription here.

A quick internet search has a grade 2 lcl tear which would be the maximum for a partial as a 2-4 week recovery time. If that’s the case we’ll have him back in September.

Braves reporters were able to capture an image of the exercise during which the injury occurred.

Depends on if we don't re-sign JD.

The front office source said the 3B market will be thin and that's probably why we won't be able to re-sign JD. If that's the case then it's either he or Camargo.

I'm wondering if the initial injury occurred that game when he played first and of course lifting would worsen it. That awkward play on the bunt by Gray

Barring something weird happening next spring, I think even before this injury we were looking at Riley starting the year in AAA. He, Waters and Pache will give us a good group to draw upon as the season wears on.

If we don't re-sign JD we will likely make a trade for a mid-level veteran who can hold down third for a year or two. Someone like Eduardo Escobar.
