With Floyd out, here is a look at what is available internally.

In AAA we have Martin, Schlosser, Maya and Rodriguez. Here are their AAA strikeout and walk rate per nine innings and FIP numbers so far this season.

Martin 8.3 2.7 3.57

Schlosser 6.3 4.5 5.05

Maya 6.5 1.8 3.40

Rodriguez 7.7 3.0 4.17

Another option in AAA is Ian Thomas, who hasn't started yet but has been given some longer relief outings. His AAA numbers so far:

Thomas 10.5 3.3 3.03

In AA, the guys to consider are Hursh, Northcraft and Williams Perez. Here are their numbers so far:

Hursh 4.7 2.3 3.74

Northcraft 8.8 3.5 3.23

Perez 6.6 2.2 3.05

I wonder if Hursh is going to skip all of these guys. He has been really good and the type of pitcher that he is lends itself to alot of innings and that is what we need.

Maya has been pitching well lately. He's given up just 3 runs in this last 5 starts. All in the same game. 6 walks and 26 K's during those five starts.

Looking forward to seeing Martin on the team, but I think that will be next year.

We also have Hale as an option

The team has to decide if he is more valuable in the major league pen or pitching out of the rotation in AAA. I think Hale is a decent pitcher, but I don't view him as necessarily superior to Martin or Thomas. I suspect the team will decide to keep him in the pen and use the guys starting in the minors as insurance in case there is a need in the major league rotation.

I think Wren needs to find a relief pitcher soon though. The options are there for starting pitchers.

Hopefully Jaime can do a good job.

Yeah, we could use a second lefty for the pen. I'm a little puzzled why the team called up first Beato then Jaime rather than Buchter or Thomas.

Maya was good enough to start for the Nats for a while. So he's probably good enough to start for us for a while. Then we find someone who's selling, and pick up another rental.

Harang puts together two abysmal starts in a row and he's gone, IMO. We definitly need rotation help, and that's assuming Minor and Santana get their acts together, which is hardly a foregone conclusion. Hale was better as a starter than either of them have been lately.

At this point I don't ever see Thomas as an option for the rotation.

Hale is in the pen because he is a good pitcher and at the time he was our best option to go to the pen vs calling somene up. If Simmons and June pitch well out of the pen they will stay and the LOOGY wren gets will replace Hale.
