Rotation Down The Stretch

An absolute stab in the dark, but I'm going to guess Soroka comes up to start one of next weekend's games and they go with a 6-man rotation to get looks at both he and Odorizzi as potential pen candidates during the playoffs. That would give Soroka and Odorizzi 4 starts each to get a good feel for where they are.

Just mapped it out, and doing that would obviously buy a little extra rest for everyone AND would set the Top 3 up on regular rest for a potential wildcard series.

Additional benefits to going with all six guys for the next few weeks would be that the Mutts would only get a look at Fried during that last series with them AND you'd have Wright/Strider/Morton lined up just in case those three rescheduled games turn into meaningful games so you can sweep that final Marlins series if it makes a difference. If Fried pitched the last game of the Mutts series, he'd be lined up to start Game 1 of a potential wildcard series on regular rest (10/07) without having to "juggle" anything.

More interested in what’s everyone’s playoff rotation. I think I go Fried/strider/wright/Morton.

I’d agree with this. That’s my ideal rotation and if it goes to a game 7 in a series I’m bring Strider in to close it out in the 9th.

Soroka is that luxury that nobody else will have down the stretch. He’ll give us the chance to rest guys and still be able to have a top quality arm on the mound. If he comes back healthy I think we’ll be the WS favorites.

I'd try to set it up where some combo of Strider, Morton, Fried, Wright pitch vs the Mets. Mets will probably try to line it up where Max and DeGrom pitch that series.

I get what you’re saying, but there’s no way Odorizzi and Soroka are pitching against the Mets. They’ll line it up for Fried/Strider/Wright

I would not expect Soroka to return during the regular season. If he comes back this year at all it will be in the playoffs. There’s no where on the roster to place him right now.

The Braves are not going to have Soroka’s first appearance in more than two years be a playoff game. If they’re considering him, he’ll be up sooner than later. Whether that means a phantom IL trip for Odorizzi or Lee or Jansen or someone or DFA for Stephens, he will see time in September.

Agreed. His first start won’t be in the playoffs.

Strider penciled in to start for Gwinnett tomorrow - looks like another week before he's part of the discussion.

The Braves way would be to start Morton in Game 1 - and on short rest in Game 4; use Strider in game one and game two relief such that he can't make a start in the series; let Kyle Wright go Game 2 and Game 5...

It sounds like a joke but its actually what we did. Still can't believe we set up a playoff series to give Soroka one start, Fried zero starts, Keuchel 2 starts and Folty 2 starts. You just can't lay-out more of a suicide mission.

Personally my rotation assuming we need 4 would be Fried, Strider, Morton, Wright. Think I still trust Morton over Wright in a playoff game. Its essential to start Strider in one of first two games such that he can be available for extended relief in a potential game 5. Putting aside any organizational bias on Morton to go Game 2, that alone in my mind is a non-starter for Morton in game 2. Plus the fact that Strider throws 100 mph and is literally super human, but Snit tends to ignore things like that

I think AA would setup the rotation, not Snit. If we can get to the NLDS.

Best of 3 i think we'd go Fried, Morton, Strider. NLDS with HFA: Fried, Strider, Morton, Wright. NLDS w/o HFA: Fried, Morton, Strider, Wright.

Soroka's injury was major. I have no issue playing it slow and safe with him. I still expect him to get 1-3 MLB starts before the post season to evaluate how he's looking against major leaguers
