Rotation Shuffle?

I suppose it's everyone panic and compare Kyle Wright to Jason Hursh time now since of the other two of the SEC college pitchers the Braves have had there, one laid waste to that league from the start and one was quite good, but it should be noted that in his last start....8 singles, then Tyler Pike came in and blew his line up to terrible.

I’m concerned our performance is going to lead to a major overpay for archer

Soroka is the only tor option for me right now. And I still think he’s a great 3 plot strong 2.needs to build innings up and super young.

I thought Wright was a tor option but he has not shown that.

Everyone out on allard right now

Other guys in the minors are in the next wave.

Folty and gohara are still stuff over results. Gohara still a two pitch guy

McCarthy is a good 3 but made of glass

Newk still walks way too many

Tehran may be done

It looks like a lot of fourth or fifth starters for a team all I on pitchers
I feel like doing an analysis of 4th starters because I think people overestimate what they should be. Most of our guys are 3s.

There’s one from Fangraphs but it’s like 12 years old
https://www.fangraphs.com/tht/how-good-is-your-4-starter/

Let me know if you want me to try to do an analysis like that

Just go to baseball savant, sort 2017 pitchers by xwOBA, and then limit it to enough ABs that you only get ~120 pitchers.

The bottom ~30 pitchers will be the 4s.

I’m guessing those pitchers will be about .320.

Nope, way off.

Limiting the search to pitchers with ABs against in 2017 gives 132 pitchers. Those bottom 30 “#4 SP” pitchers xwOBA fell into the range of about .340-.370. They are just bad pitchers on bad teams, not 4s.

This is obviously just looking at the best 130 SPs in the game, not necessarily the guys that make up the rotation of a contender. A better methodology would be to take a look at the 8 playoff teams plus a couple other near WC teams, and look at the production each got from their #4 guy.

If the goal is being a playoff team, the #4 guy for hose teams should be the benchmark.

I’ll do it sometime this week

How long does Gohara have to be in Gwinnett for us to gain an extra year of control?

Honestly I suspect he's there for quite a while based on what I've read ("he looks very out of shape and not with it"). Wouldn't be surprised if it's the majority of the rest of this year.

Pretty sure Gohara currently has 27 days of service time. He can have 171 days of service time and still not use up his first season of team control.

He can be on the roster for 144 days this season, I think. That’s like 20 weeks.

The season ends 9/30, and 20 weeks before that is somewhere around May 13.

I think.

Do you accrue service time in playoff games?

Second question - what’s the limitation on rehab starts? Does a rehab start accrue service time? I assume not since you are technically on the dL.

As long as you're on the major league disabled list, it eats up service time.

That was why I wanted the Braves to option Gohara to gwinnett and have him on the minor league DL.

Gohara was seemingly earning service time until today when he was optioned to AAA. At least that's how I see it.
