Sad state of American Economics

Is Walmart forcing them to work there against their will and make the amount of money they do, or are they free to go somewhere else and try to earn more?

thankfully they destroyed the local economy by opening their store filled with cheap chinese crap leaving no other jobs for some of them to go to in some of these small towns etc

They are not allowing them to join unions either

but hey, keep sticking up for the rich people instead of wanting America and Americans to a better place. they need your non rich voice

Walmart associates make an average of about $8.81 an hour, despite the company’s misleading claims to the contrary. Under Walmart’s definition of full-time work, this amounts to only about $15,500 annually. Meanwhile, the Waltons’ wealth is up 25% in just six months. Basically, in less than 10 seconds, the Waltons made what the average Walmart associate makes in a year.

How many small businesses has Walmart put out of business? Why don't we talk about all the jobs they have eliminated?

You get rid of Walmart and then what? Do you really think there's enough small businesses to employ 1.4 million people that'd be without a job?

Do you think there's even enough people willing or able to create small businesses that would employ all those 1.4 million people?

Get real.

Don't get me wrong, small business is good and I like shopping at them, but I don't always want to pay the high price tag that comes with it. Sometimes I need/want the $5 tshirt or $15 dollar pair of jeans I can get at walmart.

Choices are good.

If Walmart had it there way and it's getting to that point there will not be any other choices.

And no 1.4M jobs wouldn't happen overnight but over time there would be just as much if not more.

False, they'd have another job. What's unemployment compared to before Walmart? I'll give you a hint, it's not better. Not to mention imagine if people earned a living wage running a small business, and instead of needing welfare etc. they had enough. Crazy thought I know. Having enough.

Sounds like there's 1.4 million people who could potentially be able to make a small business.

I can get them at smaller businesses too. Or I can buy Jeans and shirts that actually will last. The **** they sell at walmart is totally bottom of the barrel.

The 48% who don't pay taxes are hurting you and I just as much as the big corporations.

One doesn't need a $100,000 salary to live in. Don't live above your means and problem solved.

This post alone should disqualify you from the discussion. Let's pretend the 48% who don't pay income taxes (I'd venture a guess pretty much all of them pay Payroll taxes, sales tax, property tax, etc.) actually did, you think that comes close to the level of the amount of wealth contolled by the richest? You're insane, that's too dumb even for Fox News.

And 100,000 salary for a household puts you in the top 20% of households, the median is 50,054 meaning half the households live under 50K, stop being obtuse.

I never said anything equaled out. I care more about people getting free rides than I do some small percent of the country.

You shouldn't go through life being jealous of others and screaming and complaining about how unfair life is. Better your life. Don't complain and bitch about it.

If you care about people getting free rides, then why don't you care about COrporations getting free rides? Say like multi-billion dollar GE who paid -11.1% of their taxes. GE From 08-12 if instead of getting 3 billion back in taxes, GE paid say 5% of their profits, that's a swing of nearly 5 billion dollars, that's one company alone, what do you think the "48%" would pay by comparison? Seriously, you not seeing it is sad.

It has nothing to do with being jealous, it has everything to do with doing what's right. What's not right is our government protecting and enabling corporations to consolidate wealth. I'm sorry you think that this isn't a rigged game, you need to do a little bit of research.

73 cents of every dollar spent at local retailers going back into the community,
Small Business Saturday offers everyone the chance to do their part for their local economy.

I mean I'm willing to have a legit debate about this, but if you're unwilling to admit that trickle down actually worked in the 80's then I can't have a reasonable discussion with you. I mean your graph you posted in the OP is clear evidence of this. Not only did the income gap remain stagnant but both the rich and the poor became wealthier than they ever have. Clinton increased income rates and capital gains rates yet the gap between the rich and the poor increased under his watch. There's no correlation between increasing taxes on the wealthy and the income inequality gap. So far this thread looks like it's going to be another thread full of useless memes.

Income inequality only became an issue when the internet boom started and the welfare pool began increasing exponentially both on the corporate and personal side. Obviously the housing crash had a huge part to do with the current spike in income inequality. We haven't been practicing true trickle down economics.

What's funny is that you guys grump and moan about Paul Ryan, but he's 100% in support of cutting out corporate welfare and welfare for the wealthy. The same thing you guys grump about. Ryan supports doing the same thing Reagan tried to do back in the 80's but didn't take in the 90's and 2000's thanks to failed economic leadership from both sides of the aisle. Corporate subsides have jumped the shark and everyone and their mother can take advantage of tax shelters and credits.

Only way to fix this issue is a complete overhaul in the tax system. Only way to get that is to empower strong economic leadership like Paul Ryan or Rand Paul. Vote in the guys that actually support expansive tax reform or stop complaining about it. Stop supporting the dems whose only solution is a proven losing strategy. The problem is that some of you guys constantly grump about it and then go vote for people who are hopeless in actually doing anything about it. Hillary? lol.
