Schafer requests more playing time

According to DOB.

He thrived the more he was used last year. But ABs for Schafer have been scarce. Should he get it; should he get them elsewhere, and is this a sign of more unrest to come?

Schafer should feel fortunate that he is on a MLB team with a guarenteed contract. He's nothing me than a 25th man at best and is more of AAAA player.

I don't mind any player wanting to play more. But the three outfielders ahead of Schafer are better than he is. At some point someone will get hurt and he'll get more AB's. But I don't hold it against him for wanting to play more.

I think he would get more playing time in Gwinnett.

Seriously, I get that he wants to play. Who doesn't? But given what they are paying B.J. and what they are paying Schafer, I think we know who is going to play (at least at this stage of the season).

Considering the fact that Cunningham's showing that he may well have been the better choice than Schafer as the 25th guy, I couldn't agree more.

Then, it would be the same situation with Cunningham not getting AB's at the major league level. We haven't seen Cunningham's upside yet, and he may be a future asset in some form. With Schafer, we've already seen everything he's got. Whatever his value was to the franchise, they'e already squeezed every last ounce. He was part of the Bourne trade, and Oberholzer may turn out to be the true centerpiece for the Astros. Then, he came back off waivers, so essentially, they got him back for nothing.

I tend to agree. Schafer's strengths are defense and speed (he's got more of those attributes than Cunningham does) and that's all the Braves are looking for from him, so that's what keeps him in Atlanta. I wonder if there would be any market for Schafer. Twins have a banged-up OF and Schafer would easily be their best CF. I think Schafer has value in the right situation. I don't think Atlanta is that situation.

Schafer is a nice complimentary bench piece who hasn't been utilized properly. Come to think of it, Fredi's overall management of the bench has been putrid -- so maybe Jordan's request (which is odd -- he must have been blazed) will serve as a wake-up call.

So far Fredi's focus seems to have been to restore the confidence of Uggla and BJ. One of two seem to be accomplished. And he's in the process of adjusting Uggla's PT down. In terms of the bench players, he's tried to get Doumit going more than anyone else, which has hurt Schafer's playing time some. I wouldn't mind seeing Schafer and Pastornicky getting a bit more time. Maybe a game a week in Schafer's case. It should start happening with the hotter weather and fewer days off and games in AL cities.
