Schafer requests more playing time

Schafer is a nice complimentary bench piece who hasn't been utilized properly. Come to think of it, Fredi's overall management of the bench has been putrid -- so maybe Jordan's request (which is odd -- he must have been blazed) will serve as a wake-up call.

Yeah, is hardly seems like Pastor and Schafer are on the club. He's probably saving Schafer as a pinch-runner some nights, and I can't see sitting any of the OF right now on his behalf, but I agree.

Schafer can go get his ABs elsewhere. He's a backup OF behind 2 Franchise level talents and a 75 million dollar man. He should suck it up. If he didn't suck ass in houston he wouldn't be in this situation. Maybe he should find a hobby to mellow himself out.

Or get better at it.

I'd just assume have George back up.

Cunningham and Terds up Schafer and Pastor out.

Laird - C
Doumit - C, 1B, LF, RF Bat
Pena - 2B, 3B, SS
Cunningham - CF, RF, LF, 2B
Terds - 1B, LF, RF, Bat

I like the greater versatility that Cunningham brings over Pastor and Schafer and we need a second bat off the bench. We have 1 bat and 4 defenders now, can't have that in the NL

Um . . . I think he's got that covered.

Terdo didn't do well last year as a sporadic bench player. Bring him up for Schafer he'll still be one, so I don't like the idea of Terdo as 25th man. Really not a spot for him beyond AAA in our org unfortunately.

I appreciate that he wants to play. But, when you royally suck, what incentive is there for the team to play you?

I think Terdoslavich is redundant when Doumit is on the team, plus Doumit can put on the tools of ignorance.

I do think we need a better bat off the bench, but that might be a Cunningham-for-Schafer switch. I'd be curious to know if there is any market for Schafer. I mentioned the Twins and he kind of fits the mold of what Gardenhire likes to do. After all, the Twins picked up Sam Fuld off waivers and had him in the starting line-up the first day he came over. Aaron Hicks has been over-matched. Arcia is banged up right now. They are playing Eduardo Escobar in the OF and he contributed mightily to their loss the other night with a misjudged fly ball. Maybe we could get Gilmartin back (Kidding!).

Terdoslavich did some work at catcher in spring training, but would obviously not be anything more than an emergency option there.

Bench players statistics tend to often be misleading for better and worse because of the small samples involved.
