School Choice II

economic outcomes are heterogeneous within any group

but on average the highly educated make a lot more dough than those less educated and our fiscal system effects large transfers from the former to the latter every year...no flowers or thank you notes expected...the more fortunate should be doing this for their less fortunate brothers and sisters (although i understand that in some cases it causes wounded pride)

Yes I know all your talking points.

My question is specifically about the product you offer. Why is it failing so badly to produce a return on investment in 2024, requiring a president to break the law to bail out consumers

y'all sadly uninformed of hahvahd's and the ivies long history of antisemitism dating back many decades...and of course their even long entanglements with slavery and racism (hello Woodrow Wilsom former president of Princeton University)

i'm glad some of you are finally realizing how malign and mediocre hahvahd and the rest of the ivies are

Don’t selectively assign our opinions, it just means your institutions are even lower by comparison

The end product boosts incomes of its recipients by a substantial amount. On average. There is a range obviously, but on average the effect is large.

But not enough to pay off the debt .

Sounds like a net loss

It more than pays off the debt of those that don't do well. There is left over funds to finance the large transfers that occur every year from highly educated high income people to the lesser educated lower income people. I realize this is a painful reality for some. But educated people do a lot of favors for the less educated. No flowers or thank you notes expected.

i know y'all against indoctrination

how about Louisiana putting the 10 commandments back into our schools!!

Idk a lot of people seem to have trouble with a lot of this for a functional society.

Honor your father and your mother.
You shall not murder.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
You shall not covet.

Parents thought the tax credit would reduce what they pay.

Instead, many schools raised tuition in a comparable amount to the tax credit.

Spoiler:

This happens in EVERY state that adopts school vouchers.

The wealthiest people in the state benefit from having their private school

tuition supplemented while the working poor pay for it.

They then raise the prices to keep the poors out of the choice places.

And these schools would still cost a fraction of what public schools do while delivering far superior education.

And on top of that more private schools will open their doors as well as a result.

https://www.wsj.com/opinion/black-voters-demand-educational-choice-2024-election-kamala-harris-1001d2f3?mod=opinion_lead_pos6

Black voters have repeatedly expressed support for school choice, with nearly 80% endorsing policies like education savings accounts and vouchers, according to Morning Consult. Polling by RealClear Opinion Research also shows that black voters support school choice more than any other race. Clearly, our communities want our children to have the same opportunities as others, regardless of race, geography or socioeconomic status. We need courageous leadership that will equip our students to thrive.

Kamala Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, are widely courting black voters. They hear, firsthand, from the same people we as pastors and community leaders hear from. But do they listen to these constituents when it comes to education freedom?

The answer has been a resounding no. The Minnesota governor has refused opportunities to work with the Legislature to pass education savings accounts or vouchers. He said in his defense: “We are not going to defund our public schools.” This is a gross misinterpretation of ESAs and vouchers. Black families don’t want to harm our public schools financially. We want properly funded public schools and education freedom at the same time. It’s possible if our leaders don’t play politics.

Mr. Walz said in Philadelphia last week that Ms. Harris wants “education to be that ticket to the middle class.” But she’s never indicated any support for school choice in any of her previous roles.

Do you do even a LITTLE research before you post?

In Oklahoma, families participating in school choice programs still see their tax money go to Public Schools. This means that public schools are bringing in more money per student. And no, private schools are not largely increasing cost to match the vouchers. Basic economics would show you that would likely drive out more families from private schools than these vouchers would bring in.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2024/08/16/chicago-progressivism-urban-politics/

The 28,000-member Chicago Teachers Union’s money and organization made Brandon Johnson, a former CTU organizer, mayor. The CTU’s political machine is as mighty as Mayor Richard J. Daley’s was, 1955-1976. The CTU, like the city council’s socialist caucus, has praised recent Venezuelan regimes, and echoed pro-Hamas supporters’ calls for an Israeli cease-fire. The CTU’s head, Stacy Davis Gates, sends her son to private school, as did 30.5 percent of Chicago’s public school teachers, 2018-2022.

Spending on public schools (more than $24,000 per student, not counting debt service and capital expenditures) has increased 107 percent since 2012, but proficiency in reading and math in grades 3-8 plummeted 63 percent and 78 percent, respectively. Only 22 percent of 11th- graders can read at grade level, only 19 percent do math at grade level. Black students’ percentages are 11 and 8. While school enrollment declined 9 percent in 2020-2022, spending increased 35.7 percent, with one unionized employee for every eight students.

Just like the woman in the view deriding the movement to vouchers while sending her own children to private school.
