Second ('Third') Trump Presidency Thread

I don’t want to start a trade war over the small amount of border encounters we have with Canada.

But I’m not MAGA

This is not my mandate.

Govern how you wish.

A “trade war” - what happens when this is over in months and trump gets all his reasonable requests? Who is at fault then?

What do border encounters look like on a border that is not policed at all?

Probably lots more Mexicans, Venezuelans, and Columbia heading north than south.

Shame that persons power was usurped fraudulently.

It’s so ****ing wild to me that the official MAGA response to *anything* Trump did that hasn’t worked out, including the things he very publicly applauded himself for and encouraged these same people to join in the applause for, is to point to Deep State trickery. Somehow nothing is ever Trump’s fault.

What would a trade war success even look like for the Canadian border? Should Canada be protecting America’s border for some reason?

eh...where have you been the last 10 years

51st state is a fairly reasonable request. Should only be a few months.

A lot of people gave Joe **** for being senile, but here we are with a President who apparently can’t remember the difference between the word subsidy and purchase.

A subset of an absurd number is still a lot but I’m glad you’ve now realized it’s still not nothing.
We can address both simultaneously. Is that ok with you?

Idk why this would be over in two months when we’ve reliably been told Canada will bear the brunt of the tariffs.

We aren’t trying to punish Canada because of their economic practices. But long term we would benefit much more from tariffs on Canada than they would from us.

People aren’t going to want to lose access to the US markets to non tariffed nations.

Trump negotiated that before 10-15m (at least) migrants were invited to invade our land. Small details I know.

Canada should take part in policing our JOINT border. Crazy concept.

News flash: Canada already cooperates with us on border control and fentanyl interdiction.

Our demands are simply to humiliate and bully them not to accomplish anything substantive.

Even if I were to grant you enormous leeway and agree there’s any sort of Northern Border crisis, Canada’s only national interest in policing that border involves things going into Canada. I don’t feel like *I* should pay more for goods in an attempt to get Canada to do America’s job for it.

Weird post from Trump considering this is apparently all about fentanyl and migrants coming across the border

it only makes sense if his objectives are understood...to cause chaos and to humiliate a country that is actually a very good neighbor

“The tariffs are going to make us very rich, and very strong,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.

Hard to get very rich if you’re pulling the plug in two months…
