Second ('Third') Trump Presidency Thread

I’m not attacking it beyond thinking it looks dumb, so I wasn’t commenting on the cost. I saw all about it being a bunch of donations. I don’t think it changes anything for me on my feelings. It’s still a big, dumb ballroom for our overlords to party in.

Odd for the leader of the free world to a have setting to gather other leaders of the world.

You have a lot of faith in the orange liar to be telling the truth.
I think I mostly believe it, and it doesn’t change anything for me if it is a lie. If these rich people are paying for a ball room, my only criticism is the same as if taxes were funding it, which is that the money would be better spent feeding the hungry. But they’re free to donate to whatever they want.

Oh, piss off with this. There’s not a single global problem that will be aided by there being a place to have a ball instead of the already world class accommodations of the White House or any other number of venues.

Also, this entire year has been about how everyone should just feel lucky to have the United States as a trading partner/ally/protector. You can’t suddenly decide that diplomacy and formality is a some important priority. Throwing fancy parties for foreign dignitaries is not America First, it’s just the current thing you’re defending.

Again, I was actually arguing against the outrage over it. I just think it’s dumb and that we allow our leaders too many luxuries.

I am a defender of American exceptionalism in all facets part of which is aesthetics. I'm sorry you just don't think the same way.

We should take pride in the white house.

For what purpose? How will my life or the lives of my children be aided by having a presidential home that is slightly nicer than the already ridiculously extravagant version of it we already have? Will I have more economic opportunity if the ambassador of Azerbaijan has some more party space?

This type of logic can be used to discout almost anything.

Can you tell me how your life is aided by USAID?

It brings me some comfort to know we’re spending money to stop some people from dying of hunger/disease. It does not bring me similar comfort to know that a ballroom exists.

Comfort

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

So absolutely no impact to your life or the life or your kids outside of your own mental insanity. Got it.

It impacts the lives of others. I don’t expect the government to spend money on my direct happiness. But you asked what I get from it, and it’s slightly more than what I get from a ballroom.

Lets ignore the administrative bloat that syphons 80-90% of USAID dollars. Just an inconsequential detail.

Trump having a hosting ground for world leaders where massive deals are being done that impact the lives of billions of people isn't important enough for you.

Again, it’s a fucking party room. The country has not been waiting 250 years for a party room in order to get good deals for the American people. It’s not an outrage that he’s changing the White House, I’m willing to accept on its face that public money isn’t going toward it and people need to be more normal about it, but you’re being absurd.

Yes - Nothing should ever be updated and made beautiful while Africans keep producing 10 kids per woman and forcing hte world to feed them.

We get it.

No - This is the reality. You can't stand to have any exceptionalism while having to think about poor Africa.
You’re the one who invited the comparison to funding USAID. I just said the ballroom is tacky and the ruling class lives in luxury. You brought us here.

The white house should be luxurious. It should be a symbol of American exceptionalism. I'm not shocked you don't see it this way as you don't see America as 'good' but the reality is it makes perfect sense for the main governmental building that houses our presidents be grand.
