Second ('Third') Trump Presidency Thread

In an ideal world we would personally interview and background check every single immigrant with immense scrutiny, but we dont do that and I frankly think its not possible to do that with the scale of immigration we face.

If 80% of Somalian require welfare to survive here, im comfortable forgoing the potential upside of the other 20%

At some point we need to start using data to make decisions. A car insurance company charges men more than women because the data tell them that is their biggest risk. What would be optimal is if they made a custom policy for every single driver based on their driving skill, but thats not possible to do.

If we're unwilling to do that, then welfare should not be available to any non citizen. No free schools or Healthcare. But our society isn't willing to do that either. So how do we solve this. Because its not sustainable that other countries simply raiding the tax payer endlessly
Charging higher prices yes, but not outright banning, because they've determined that would clearly be sub-optimal. I reject the idea that we're facing a choice between a blanket ban or an impossible vetting system. MAGA has the power and isn't even trying to come up with a better immigration policy. Nor are they attempting to reform the systems that are so very large and ripe for abuse.

Not to mention, what is actually on the offer from MAGA that couldn't/wouldn't be erased with the stroke of a pen the next time they lose an election? Because that's just as impractical and ineffective of a solution.

Ah the appearance of not doing anything just like blind economic policy. Seemingly a pattern here if your default position.

Right now we need to aggressively clean up the mess.

Oh boy…

My only real contribution here to what I just read is that the “great replacement theory” is probably still only believed by 20% of the US population (so it’s an 80/20 issue in which I KNOW is against diehard MAGA for now at least) and it is exactly why the idea of pushing very hard immigration wise has led to (while his favorables do remain the best on this issue, yes) Trump’s favorables falling some on immigration/the border (actually think the immigration issue has dipped to negative territory while the border is positive).

People like the idea of sending criminals to the crib (prison or deportation), but they do NOT like the idea of breaking into some nice lunchlady’s house and tossing her family into an ICE truck OR the idea of denaturalization.

TL/DR: the Somalian story does look to be true, but it's also being used as an excuse right now to push the bullsh-- theory that the great replacement conspiracy is true or the idea that it's the only reason why MN is blue, which speaking of which...if better candidates were run by the MN GOP, it could easily end up being competitive, but it looks as if the candidates will be pillow guy for governor and for senate, Royce White, who is crazy.

"You have to be smarter than this"

Get bent.

When you throw around the "racist" BS then expect to be called a leftist.

Do I believe you're one? Not really, but you sure are acting like one.

What is your definition of racism?

Mine would include something along the lines of "maliciously discriminating against a group of people based solely on their immutable characteristics and membership in a particular racial group."

Thethe is on the record here proudly demanding that the state racially profile particular groups while policing. That clearly meets my definition for racism.

This is a discussion board, so you're free to offer an alternative definition and tell me I'm wrong. I'm happy to engage.

A bunch of stupid people bludgeoning the claim of racism to the point of near meaninglessness is a shame, but it's also not my problem. And it doesn't mean racism doesn't exist.

I would say demonizing people because of the actions of other people that share their racial/ethnic characteristics is a form of racism/bigotry.

For example, if I said all rich white men were evil and needed to be deported because of the behavior of Epstein's associates.
