Second ('Third') Trump Presidency Thread

Correct nothing ever can be done because midterms are always around the corner

I think voters might like a president who says "im not going to be signing this spending bill until all these fraud programs are cut"

I'm not sure voters would like that since majority of our voters are takers not makers.

LIke I've said in lots of other areas these changes must be made over long periods of time. Overton window has to shift and the fraud that is being uncovered now will lead to additional investigations which will then lead to more fraud implicating NGO's/Politicians.

That is when you make a move to drastically cut these programs. It sucks but this is the system we have. The single most important thing is to win which is what my argument with you was on Trumps supposed abortion/trans stances in the runup to the 24 election.

Cool. He can remain the only president to never veto a spending bill then. Why use your leverage when you have the majority?

You can take this rigid position and thats fine but when it hurts electorally and all is undone you can't complain.

I like to take a more pragmatic approach (like not committing during an election on abortion) so that we win more elections and the window shifts over time. That what we are going to get and you're going to love the LONG TERM results.

Long term results would be literally anything becoming a law but to date all we have are EOs and omnibus spending bills. There is nothing lasting from this presidency.

And the midterms are always around the corner!

This is not a Trump issue so not sure why you bring this up.

Republicans themselves would not cut spending as they are also corrupt.

Its an artificial hurdle you set because your mind is made up.

Is is a Trump issue bc he can go tell MAGA Mike Johnson to do his job or else he wont sign.

This isn't complicated. But so far he always just signs what they put on his desk

Do his job by getting republicans to get off their spending high?

How exactly would that be done?

Lol are you really not understanding?

Trump could tell his hands selected speaker to cut x $ off medicaid to states with fraud out of the next spending bill. He could tell him he will refuse to sign an omnibus (which he said before he wouldn't sign ever again... but then he did), and to produce clean single issue spending bills that all must be voted on

That's the stuff that would move the needle and expose congress for their fraud.

But Trump simply doesn't care. MAGA Mike knows that, and so status quo is what we will get.

If Trump wants some good ideas on how to do this he can call the governor of Florida who tweets about it consistently

Got it - So there can be a stalemate in congress and Democrats can control the narrative going into the midterms.

Then you can trash Trump for 'always losing'.

All we heard was about what a disaster the OBBB would be and yet nobody has died because of it!

So to be clear you are supportive of massive omnibus spending bills instead of single issue spending bills.

Swampy!

Also, you do realize that RDS has never vetoed a full spending bill and he has additional powers as a Gov that a president does have from a line item veto perspective?

I'm sure you were aware when you try to compare the two situations.

Depends on what the bill looks like - I'm in it for the long term and understand that things take time.

Single issue spending bills are obviously the preference. But you have to get support.

Two Trump terms and its status quo. You don't get a third term

The appeal of Trump was he was a change agent to drain the swamp. Instead, it's bigger, beautiful, status quo

Ah- There have been no changes at all to the 'swamp'. Just record terminations of federal employees.

Its hard to take you seriously when you say its gotten bigger.

The Trump administration significantly reduced the IRS workforce, primarily by firing around 6,700 probationary employees in early 2025 and offering buyouts, leading to overall staff losses of nearly a third, including auditors and customer service agents, despite efforts to reverse Biden-era hiring. These cuts aimed to shrink the agency but drew criticism for potentially hurting tax collection and taxpayer assistance, with many of those let go being newer staff hired under the previous administration.

Swamp is getting bigger!!!!! Come on dude - Set aside your hatred for Trump for just a minute and realize all the great things that are happening.

Voters are gonna be outraged at this fraud.

It’s gonna fuel plenty of local vitriol at the Dems who are currently in power at the local levels.

Nothing pisses people off like a thief. And they have been setting up funding circles for campaigns to keep that process in place.

It’s about as bad as it gets
