It’s a fair bit easier to claim there are no indications of this sort when you start from a place of outright dismissing the validity of the claims as a massive conspiracy. You’re taking the exact evidence you’re suggesting to be missing and denying it outright. I don’t think we should be sending Hegseth or Gaetz to jail if the evidence isn’t strong enough, but I simply think it’s an acceptable reason to have reservations about making one of them the Attorney General of Secretary of Defense. There are plenty of wonderful jobs in this country, including in those very departments, they can go do if they aren’t confirmed by the Senate. If we just claim the President’s top choices should be confirmed, why even have the Senate vote in the first place? It’s meant to be a check on Executive power, not a team sport.

Again, you’ve just decided, all on your own, that this behavior was simply unseemly and not predatory. But it seems like a stretch to suggest the Founders would have this be the process if it were meant to be a rubber stamp. And there are frankly a lot of people in this country that aren’t “unseemly” we could have be in charge of the things the government can use to trample our rights the quickest.

No, I haven’t decided anything because I don’t have the facts. Fortunately the United States Senate has the resources to get as many facts as they can and interview Hegseth themselves to ascertain his character. That’s all that has happened so far. 6 Republican Senators won’t commit to confirming Hegseth yet. Trump can take the easier route and advance a more qualified candidate that won’t have that issue, or he can go the hard route and the US Senate can *gasp* do the thing it’s supposed to do in this process.
