It is stupid because those people have no recourse when China/Russia begin to take control.

Not wanting to be colonized by the Danish crown doesn't mean they want to be a US Territory. They probably want to be an independent nation, not a vassal state for Denmark or the US.

I think it’s fair to be skeptical this would be it when 67% of votes in the last national election went to dueling Democratic Socialist parties and the winning party’s differentiator was favoring independence. I could be wrong, but I don’t think I’m going out on a massive limb.

I’m sure you are sure, given that in your estimation the entire world implicitly understands that being a US territory is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a populace and we’d just be doing them a big favor turning their homeland into a US mining operation that bolsters our tech industry.
