I just acknowledged that every other modern President has done it and that it was almost always wrong. I’ve actively given Trump credit for his overall approach to war, particularly in the first couple months of his term. But there is no good argument Iran posed us enough of a threat to strike.

it could also be that some of these decisions are governed by motivations other than enriching the military industrial complex or by some psycho-sexual lust for dominance and conquest
 
there are often good arguments against these interventions

i find it interesting that rather than marshalling those arguments people often fall back on: 1) it is not constitutional and 2) the people advocating for it have bad motives

that pattern makes for a pretty sterile discussion

If Congress debated the arguments and voted whether to approve such actions perhaps the public would be better informed on why we should or shouldn’t.

Sure. I think Congress debating these issues would enrich the discussion. But it is not just on Congress to have a good public discussion.

The public is doing well enough. You don’t need to search too hard to hear an argument for a given choice.

But Congress is the one entrusted with the power to authorize war powers — not the public.

Why do we even need a congress anymore? Can't lobbyists write the bills for Pelosi and Johnson to send to the president for signature like they already do today?
