Second ('Third') Trump Presidency Thread

I’m generally fine with making able-bodied folks do *something* for benefits, but having a set time limit on eligibility for low-income housing seems like a recipe for increased homelessness. There’s a lot of people who aren’t technically disabled but will never be capable of making enough money to afford anything but this. I’d support reforming the program by building units that could house more people but perhaps require you to live in an apartment with other people?
A family member manages FHA housing. A very soft hearted, warm, caring, empathetic, family member. That family member is overwhelmed with disgust at the fraud and abuse the beneficiaries perpetrate, and the difficulty in putting a stop to it. Literally beyond anger into almost despondency.

Maybe we should create places that provide housing and care for mentally ill people. When mentally ill people are found homeless, they could move to those places. Perhaps that would end the majority of homelessness.

You said I changed my tune but you neglect to mention it’s dependent on a diverstiture.

I’ll wait to see what your reaction is when that happens
Thethe spent pages explaining to me that TikTok will be divested and not doing so would be unacceptable

As an update, I can reassure the board that thethe has changed his mind!

I’m sure there’s a lot of terrible stories everywhere. But I’d prefer finding more sustainable, even if less dignified or convenient methods of maximizing the amount of aid we can provide to those in need of food, water or shelter.

I prefer giving hungry people food. I would authorize whatever the healthy serving portion of rice, beans, eggs, and chicken for 3 meals per day.

Thats is. Thats the only thing they should be able to buy. They should not be fat. They should not be enjoying this. They should be consuming what is necessary to maintain healthy life

Would you sign on to that?

I certainly know why many people are hesitant to bring back asylums, but I do think there’d be some societal benefit in creating a robust public system for helping these folks in this manner. I think if you provided funding for asylums like Trump has suggested and paired that with a massive reform on criminal justice, particularly with drug-related offenses, we could actually make an impact. The problem I have is that I simply do not trust the Republican majority to actually commit to the steps needed to benefit these people and not just lock them away and abuse them.

Yes. I’ve said it before, but my ask on food is to just not let people starve. I’d personally also push for free school breakfast and lunch programs to ensure kids are having their nutritional needs met, but I’m not asking for SNAP cards that buy whatever someone wants.

Hahaha

To be clear, I don’t necessarily trust the Dems to do it right either, but my worry right now is we’re going to do that thing where we claim to have a two step solution where we implement a policy that cuts a service or infringes on someone’s rights, but then never get around to the part where we fix it. Kind of like how after a school shooting the right loves to talk about mental health, but never makes with the funding for mental healthcare.

The asylums were incredibly bad in this country, and a return to that model is unacceptable if we’re not using them more effectively and working to reduce other societal ills.

OK. Im on board with the chicken and rice approvals. This would be very cheap, and very healthy.

I suspect your party would object

I’m guessing it’d be likened to genocide and be said to be steeped in white supremacy somehow. But we need to learn to compromise if we want to feed the hungry.

Was decidedly unsurprised to learn that his rap sheet was from 1989. He went to prison, served his time, got married, had kids and started a business. They’re not making the streets safer by deporting this man, and the Newsweek headline isn’t misleading anybody.

A friendly reminder to anybody who uncritically accepts what DHS is telling you about the people they’re deporting is that they’re a bunch of deceptive liars.
