Second ('Third') Trump Presidency Thread

Just spend less on defense and tell Europe to defend themselves without coercing an ally into giving us their land.
I think you’re looking at this like Greenland is still a backwater island and the US is going to sail up and steal their coconuts while they rape their women. The actual scenario is that Greenland is Taiwan, only more strategic to more powers, and infinitely less self reliant. The goal isn’t to make them the 51st state, it’s to make them Taiwan, Israel, or Palau.

I don’t know how else to say this, this is simply Nazi shit.

Its even worse for the US taxpayer that has to subsidize this arrogance. BUt you have already made your feelings known that you don't care about the US taxpayer.

No, I’m aware of the reality of territorial governance in the modern world. But I think once we start saying things like “we need our own Taiwan” we’ve lost the plot.

We could simply vote for people who wouldn’t spend our tax dollars on this.

I get it and appreciate the sentiment. The unfortunate reality is that we are in a bipolar Cold War again. Asia, Europe, and Africa all have example of Chinese infrastructure “investments” that turned into hostile takeovers. Greece is in the EU and NATO and still took the money and paid the same price for it that everyone else does. That happening in Greenland is unacceptable, EU and NATO has shown they will allow it, so there’s only choice remaining.

what's interesting is all the geopolitical arguments about Greenland apply to the Svalbard archipelago, which has a more precarious political dispensation

Svalbard is often used as both a comparison and warning about Greenland. It’s still a mess because decisive action wasn’t taken when needed. Its “neutrality” wasn’t very neutral.

Ditto for Iceland. Even more crucial because of sensitive underwater cables used for both commerce and espionage. Should never have been allowed to become an independent country.

This may be hard to believe, but some world leaders don’t want to escalate tensions.
The same world leaders that r slave their population for social media posts and don’t stop Muslim rape gangs?

Maybe if the EI was serious about defense we wouldn’t be here.
