I can't speak for zito or mqt but America's founding ideals were shaped by the principles that grew out of the Enlightenment. Particularly those emphasizing reason, the rights of the individual, consent of the governed.

The thinkers who influenced the founding fathers the most and whose influence remain strong include:

1) John Locke: natural rights, the social contract, the right to revolution if rulers violate the social contract

2) Baron de Montesquieu: separation of powers, checks and balances to prevent tyranny

3) Voltaire: freedom of expression, religious tolerance
 
Micah 4:4 was George Washington's favorite bible verse.

He used it in a well-known letter to the Hebrew Congregation in Newport, Rhode Island. In the letter, Washington wrote "May the children of the stock of Abraham who dwell in this land continue to merit and enjoy the good will of the other inhabitants – while every one shall sit in safety under his own vine and fig tree and there shall be none to make him afraid."
