Seditious Conspiracy--Calling All Legal Eagles

Ok, we have a former guy that tried his damnedest to subvert an election even before the election, as in 5 years before.
Got his ass handed to him and we are watching.

I have been following current events since the Cuban Missle Crisis , 60 years? 0In our history, this is a first.
Trump ain't broke me. But driving past a car crash we are all prone to rubber necking.

Better question is, why is a pool athlete dominating your attention.
Again

maybe it's just me but a president losing an election and then attempting a coup to stay in power strikes me as an interesting story...might even be a movie someday

If Obama or Biden had tried to stop an election they believed to be fraudulent we wouldn't be hearing anything about a "coup". It definately wouldn't have made it to the courts.

Personally I don't know how this can be a coup when:

1) They stopped when Pence didn't want to cooperate. If this was a real coup they wouldn't have been working within the law and would have kept going on despite Pence's reluctance to help.

2) Coups don't have special elections. That's what Trump and company wanted to do. He wasn't going to become a dictator.

You guys have no idea that you're going to have egg on your faces once again.

Of the 46 POTUS all but 45 tried

Just because #45 took the lesson from Roy Cohn on how to get out of legal jams and whether he does or not
Does not make this a once in a 2 1/2 century occurance.

Egg on my face, nah.
I have known he was a bull****ing carney barker since the early 80s and that everyone near him eventually gets burned.

From Judge Carter's opinion:

Dr. Eastman himself repeatedly recognized that his plan had no legal support. In his
discussion with the Vice President’s counsel, Dr. Eastman “acknowledged” the “100 percent
consistent historical practice since the time of the Founding” that the Vice President did not
have the authority to act as the memo proposed.254 More importantly, Dr. Eastman admitted
more than once that “his proposal violate[d] several provisions of statutory law,”255 including
explicitly characterizing the plan as “one more relatively minor violation” of the Electoral
Count Act.2

Dr. Eastman’s views on the Electoral Count Act are not, as he argues, a “good faith
interpretation” of the law;259 they are a partisan distortion of the democratic process. His plan
was driven not by preserving the Constitution, but by winning the 2020 election.

[Dr. Eastman] acknowledged that he didn’t think Kamala Harris should have that authority in 2024; he
didn’t think Al Gore should have had it in 2000; and he acknowledged that no small government
conservative should think that that was the case.260

Dr. Eastman also understood the gravity of his plan for democracy—he acknowledged “[y]ou
would just have the same party win continuously if [the] Vice President had the authority to just
declare the winner of every State.”261

The evidence shows that Dr. Eastman was aware that his plan violated the Electoral
Count Act. Dr. Eastman likely acted deceitfully and dishonestly each time he pushed an
outcome-driven plan that he knew was unsupported by the law.

The co-conspirators (Eastman, very poorly chosen one, etc) were attempting nothing more than the illegal and extra-constitutional nullification of an election. Just cuz they didn't like the outcome. I call that an attempted coup. ymmv

If anyone disappointed through all of this it is those that allowed him to gain office in the first place and to this day defend.
After being warned by those that have been forced to watch for decades.

Name one long time Trump ally?

very true...people who put partisan considerations above principles and above the constitution...it is what it is

it was actually quite easy to see what kind of person very poorly chosen one was and where this was headed...way before it happened...it will always be a source of immense satisfaction that i had the good sense to leave the GOP in the summer of 2016

i hope they find their way...these intramural quarrels (like the one between Kemp and Perdue) matter...there are definite good guys and bad guys (from my point of view) in a slew of primaries coming up...it isn't a question of ideology or positions on the issues...it is a question of who respects the rule of law and the constitution enough to put it above one man's fragile ego...surely that should come above other considerations

Not even partisan me thinks.
Bigotry and racism has been at the bottom of GOP allure since the mid 60s.
Trump just turned it into reality tv.

Fortunetly that bit of sunlight alerted many to your conclusions.

anyhow the country needs two semi-sane parties...so i'll be rooting for the Kemp/McConnell wing over the bootlickers...hopefully a decent conservative will also usher out Marjorie Greene

One would hope

You guys still can't figure out that the only reason we're going through this is because it's Trump who did this. The dems and a few RINOs are desperate to get him out the picture. It's all politics.

Let's see what happens when we get out of the of the blue courts. Eastman himself could well be very wrong on this and it's more than likely a misdemeanor than a felony. It's funny how all of you were trying to defend Judge Sullivan's actions against Flynn when Sullivan went rogue.

seditious conspiracy can get you up to 20 years

Except any court outside of DC, Cal, or NY probably won't go in that direction. Little by little the truth about what happened on November 3rd is coming out. Good luck with your "seditious conspiracy".

Let's see who'll be right after a year's time. Here's a spoiler: It won't be you.

I believe DC is where a criminal trial would be held if one comes to pass. That's where most of the alleged criminal activity took place.
