Sept roster moves

What are the Braves going to do with Sept call ups?? What's your guess?

Remember, the roster can only be 28 players. Don't know what the final number of pitchers, 13 or 14, is going to be but the Braves are already carrying 14. If the limit is 13, they will have to get rid of 1.

That would leave only 3 slots for position players. Dansby would probably be 1, Ender or Markakis could be another IF they are found healthy. Who gets the final 2 places IF Ender and/or Markakis are not cleared.

My guess would be Riley and LaMarre

Given the Ender injury, I think it is more likely we sign Billy Hamilton if he clears waivers and becomes a free agent. Remember, AA has Lane Adams in Mississippi getting ready to be that speed off the bench for Sept. But I could see us going with Hamilton over him given his defense in CF.

I don't think the 40 man roster in September changes until next season.

Even with the 40-man limit, we will have to put someone on the 60-day DL or DFA someone to add players not already on the 40-man. Once Swanson is back and hopefully 100% you might see Adeiny Hechavarria let go to add someone. We also might add a pitcher to the 60-day DL to add another.

Yeah I'm 99 percent sure that rule doesn't start until 2020.

We know Ender, Dansbae, and Neck are given once they are healthy. I also think we can safely assume we will call-up an extra catcher, which is probably Murphy for his defense. I also think it's safe to say that at least one of Wilson/Wright will be recalled and at least 2 other relievers (Minty and Sobtoka likely have the edge here). And I'd assume Camargo and Adams will get a lot of consideration as well.

Why would we? We are not over the limit on the 40 man. Guys on the 10 day DL still count against the 40 man.

My biggest question is do we leave Gwinnett alone while they compete for the championship. I think there is a rule that says if your MLB team and AAA team win championships in the same year that the MLB team automatically gets the trophy the following year. This is a very important year.

We are at 40 exactly, we would need to do so to add someone to the 40-man. For example, if we add a speed player off the bench as AA has mentioned doing.

Lucas Duda is another that would need to be added if he does enough for AA to add him. Right now he isn't hitting much so he might not get to play with Mac this year.

Depending on how quickly they recover, some of the guys currently injured might play for Gwinnett in the playoffs.

To answer the question posed in the opening post:

Lefty pitchers: Minter (maybe Dayton too after a rehab stint)
Righty pitchers: Sobotka, Webb, Touki, Wilson
Catcher: Jackson or Murphy
Injured players returning as they heal up: Muk, Swanson, Riley, Inciarte

Gotcha.

It's not the 40 man but active roster that is set at 28 in Sept.

Not until next season. Quoth the wikis:

Through the 2019 season, the Major League team's roster expands on September 1 from the 25-man active roster to the entire 40-man roster. At this point, any player on the expanded roster on August 31 may play for the Major League team. From 2020 forward, the expanded roster will be eliminated, and the active roster will expand only from 26 to 28. Additionally, all teams will be required to have 28 players on their active rosters after August 31.

New limitations

How many players can MLB teams have in September?
After Sept. 1, all teams will be allowed to carry 28 players, rather than the 40-man glut of recent years. As part of the ongoing discussions, the teams and the players will negotiate to determine the number of pitchers allowed on each roster. The number has not yet been set.Mar 14, 2019

This is from MLB’s own website:

CHANGES EFFECTIVE IN 2020

Active roster provisions: The roster size from Opening Day through Aug. 31 will increase from 25 to 26 (with the minimum number of active players rising from 24 to 25, and roster sizes for doubleheaders rising from 26 to 27).

The 40-man active roster for September will be eliminated. From Sept. 1 through the end of the regular season, all clubs will carry 28 players.
